I want to change career & become a makeup artist. Can anyone recommend Delamar or Greasepaint courses?

I am 25 %26amp; based in the UK. Make up's always been my greatest hobby and used to work for Dior when I was younger but since my husband bought me an evening course I can't stop thinking about pursuing a full time career. I want to make sure I choose my course wisely and was thinking about the 14 week Complete Make Up Artist course at Delamar Academy...has anyone done this or know whether it's well respected? Also, has anyone changed their career this way and how long does it take to get paid work? Also these full courses seem to have Prosthetics as a module and fashion as an extra option, is it necessary to have Prosthetics experience or would fashion be more beneficial?

depends on what you wan to do if its fashion make up then fashion is a good option,as you could do weddings, prosthetics is good but harder to get work in as it would mainly be used in film and TV, i don't think greasepaint is used in theatres that much anymore and actors in theatre do their own makeup TV and films use makeup artists but i think hey would rather you had more than a 14 week course, media makeup is very different, and has to be done very professionally

It depends on how much education you have. Most states require you to have a master's degree (social work, psychology, counseling) to work as a counselor. So you would have to get a bachelor's degree and a master's degree. Then you have to do an internship. How long depends on the state. (These degrees also make it easier to get insurance payments to cover the patient's costs.)



You can get a bachelor's degree at an online college, make sure it's accredited, and keep working. You might also be able to find a online master's program. The internship, obviously, has to be done live.



I got my second graduate degree at 50, so life is hardly passing you by.



As for how to go about it, figure out what state you want to practice in. Then check the requirements to be a counselor there. Then figure out what colleges in your state have MSW, MC, or similar programs. Find a program that you like and apply for it, once you have the bachelor's degree.

I had training for dental assisting while in high school, and it's pretty much all I have ever done, but recently I discovered that I am so interested in a career that would be computer related, especially web design or graphic design, I am looking for a job right now and I know you do need training or even a degree to do these jobs, and I would like to get a degree online for something like that soon, but until then what kind of jobs could I find that relate to those careers? something that would train me on the job, I do have general knowledge of some web design aspects and graphic design just from doing things at home but I really just want something related to those careers for now until I can get my degree and go further, I am the kind of person that wants to get right into something and work my way up now instead of staying with a job I am not happy with in the meantime..... any advice is truly appreciated! My advice is to talk to someone whose doing what you'd like to do. Find someone that has been in that field for several years and take them out to lunch/dinner.



Ask them a lot of questions so that you understand what the job is like. How did they get started? What training did they have? What do they do? How much do they make? etc.



Ideally, you'd want to talk to several people in that field to get a range of perspectives.



This is a cheap way to investigate other careers.

I'm a good example. I have done other things besides being a secretary, I was a web site builder for a few years.



The way to do it is to find a company that promotes from within, get in there, offer to learn, to help. Never turn anything down because it's not in your job description. Work hard, get along with people, and you can get promoted. Don't be afraid to tell your boss something interests you, because they will give you chances if they like and think you'll succeed.

I am a high school drop out. i went to barnes and noble and started reading all of the how to get rich books by all of the big boys. I learned one thing that makes me stand out from most other people. I took one word out of my vocabulary.

Here is the situtation:

I am a single parent who will be moving to a smaller community (22,000 people versus 1.3 million) and have a few dilemmas.



Career Dilemma:



First, I already have an Associates Degree in general studies.



I want to change careers as well as just relocating. Most job advertisements require only a high school diploma (only 20% of the town has an AS or BA).



I am looking into short term education opportunities where I am living now. Would it be better to get additional program certificates in one specific area (such as accounting) or get course certificates in a variety of areas? I just want to be able to get a job there.



Family Dilemma:



How do I explain the move to my son? He will be four when we move and really hates change.Honest answers please... need advice on family and career change?
1. Either before you move, when you go visit/ looking for place, or after you're there: Go to your local Career Center. You can find them by calling your Human Services Dept. You don't have to be on any program or assistance to get these services for free, anyone can do it. However, as a single parent, you qualify for so many things they have career wise.

They have a %26quot;test%26quot; you can take to see which direction will benefit you advancing further and what's best suited for you, your experiences, education and personality and goals.

They'll have books with job listings, websites to go to, and job placement help. It works, and it is all free if you'll just ask.



2- being an army brat, we moved a lot, then I married into it and did it to my kids (for a while)

He is very young, so it is actually better on him to go now, than later. Try to get a routine started once your settled, and that will always help him adjust to things. Get involved with a play group or something at you local library, they help him adjust, too.

Kids are way more resilient than we give them credit for. If it is best for you, then in the end, that is best for him, right?!

You sound like a good parent who's concerned for your child's future by bettering yours. He'll appreciate it in long run, promise.

actually i would go after the accounting program, my girlfriend is a single mother and with her accounting degree she had all the qualifications to run any type of an office plus she does taxes for 2 companies at home and does taxes for people at home during tax season. her office job is all computer based so when her daughter is sick she is able to work from home. as for your son (i understand about hating change i do to) i think you will have to make the move sound like a huge adventure with a promise at the end. are you going to be buying a house? can he have a new swingset or something he has been repeatedly asking for?Honest answers please... need advice on family and career change?
I would suggest that you get program certificates in a specific area. Your degree is already general, but not particularly conducive to employment. You need some marketable skills.



As to explaining the move to your son, you should be honest and specific. Tell him far in advance. Get pictures of the town you are moving to, names of schools and activity centers. Show him a picture of the house you will live in (if you can). If you haven't found a house or apartment yet, bring him with you to look at them and help chose one.



If at all possible, go visit the town with him and play at play grounds. Go camping or hiking in the area, and invite his friends to come with you. Take lots of pictures of him and his friends.



Get the addresses and phone numbers of his best friends so he can write them letters and call them after the move.
