How do I withdraw from one University Online to enroll in a new college to change career paths?

I am wanting to switch schools, how can I do that? How do I withdraw from one University Online to enroll in a new college to change career paths?
Check with your financial counselor or enrollement conselor, but they should be able to tell you. typically the time to add/drop classes or withdraw is before a new semester starts. You can drop out of classes at any time but typically once you have started a class you will be financially responsible for it. I would wait untill you are done with whatever class you are taking. If you want help with any of this please contact me at dpotts@online.gcu.eduHow do I withdraw from one University Online to enroll in a new college to change career paths?

I recently changed careers and I am not happy, how do I explain why I am back in the market for employment?

I recently took a position in the social work field. I love the work however the pay scale that was in effect at the time I was employed has recently been readjusted and the bonuses promised have been cut in half. Now Im not money hungry however, I chose this position due to the fact that it was as close to my former salary. At this rate I will have to take on a second job to maintain.I recently changed careers and I am not happy, how do I explain why I am back in the market for employment?
I have found that the toughest questions are best answered honestly. When you are passionate and sincere interviewers can tell and I think they appreciate it.

I had a similar situation because I the educational field so I know the work is good but the pay could be better.

You might want to think about the type of institutions you work with. Explore the outlook and pay scale with schools and hospitals as opposed to state agencies which will have steadier pay rates/contracts.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to improve your situation... employers will understand. Think of this... as a social you are supposed to help others so you should also be able to help yourself and you need to improve your quality of life to do so.I recently changed careers and I am not happy, how do I explain why I am back in the market for employment?
You just gave the perfect explanation. You don't have to list any reason on your resume, of course, but when asked, say what you just said. Every employer understands the need to pay the bills. Good luck!I recently changed careers and I am not happy, how do I explain why I am back in the market for employment?
Just tell them, %26quot;I am not happy%26quot;, like ya did to us. It made us listen. Then, %26quot;shoot for the moon. If ya fall, at least you will land among the stars%26quot;. You go girl!I recently changed careers and I am not happy, how do I explain why I am back in the market for employment?
tell them your in debtI recently changed careers and I am not happy, how do I explain why I am back in the market for employment?
You explain it by tellign the truth. You wer enot happy with the job you had and decided to look for a better one because of money.

I do not know your specific situation nor why you are so money hungry, so i can only point out that money isn't everything, you need to find a job that you are happy doing, more money won't solve everything. Though if you in desperate need of money to survive (not b/c you need that new big screen tv or anyhting like that) then you'll have to just stick with a crummy job that pays well and be happy that you can support yourself and/or family.

All you need to do in order ot explain your situation is just tell the truth.

good luckI recently changed careers and I am not happy, how do I explain why I am back in the market for employment?
Honesty is usually the best policy. Being clear about how the company experienced budget cuts resulting in a lower than agreed upon salary would be well understood in the current economic climate.I recently changed careers and I am not happy, how do I explain why I am back in the market for employment?
If you are currently working in your social work position any prospective employer is going to view that as a plus. It is not as if you were fired or quit for some unknown reason.

Let any prospective employer know that you are presently working, however your present employer is cutting back and you think it is best to seek another job.

Don't express dissatisfaction with your present employer. New employers do not want to hear that you are under paid or unhappy. Give off a positive image.

  • Changing careers from a teacher to an office clerk, what do you think?

Do office clerks have less stress and more stable working hours? I dont like taking work home anymore. Its not required, but I have to in order to prep for the next day's lesson. I know as an office clerk, I have to deal with annoying coworkers, but at least I can try to reason with them or complain to management. With kids, I have to do some behavior management techniques which may take months to see some progress, plus I feel incompetent when my principal comes by to observe at a bad time when my kids arent settled. Are office clerks graded or critiqued every few months?

I like being creative, are there jobs that I will be good at , but dont have a lot of stress? How about a librarian or a school clerk?Changing careers from a teacher to an office clerk, what do you think?
Depends where you are talking about being a clerk at .

Some have lots of stress and only 2 weeks vacation if that .

Their pay is low and are the first ones laid off when a company %26quot;needs to reduce costs%26quot;.

A teacher needs a college degree , a clerk needs a high school degree so figure on a drop in pay along with the drop in vacation .

    Maybe another Plan B ?

%26gt;Changing careers from a teacher to an office clerk, what do you think?
Well it sounds like you're ready for a career change.....WHICH IS GOOD, but also has it's bad points.

HOWEVER, it doesn't mean you still can't tutor students on the side.

    Librarian honestly SOUNDS BOARING........

But if you still want to work with kids,,, try a day care setting

Need advice about changing careers. How do you narrow down what it is that you want to do?

Whatever age person u r, ensure where u want to reach and improve ur skills according to the requirement u need to reach that destination and travel thru that but itz not simple to get the opportunity in which u have trained but itz alwayz good to keep yourself in to what u r going to do...

And as another user mentioned in this, if money is not matter to you then WAIT UNTIL UR CHANCE but dont remain doing nothing instead alwayz work on ur creditabilityNeed advice about changing careers. How do you narrow down what it is that you want to do?
I can answer by asking a few questions...

What do you like to do in your spare time?

If you did not have to %26quot;work%26quot; for money, and you could retire and live in style, or travel, or anything you could dream of, how would you spend your time? (traveling, helping people, inventing stuff, starting your own business, etc).

Looking back on the last 10 or 20 years of your life (not sure how old you are), what are your best memories, and why?

The answers to these questions will tell you a lot about yourself and what you will be happy doing.

I hope this helps.Need advice about changing careers. How do you narrow down what it is that you want to do?
Changing careers is usually a question of earnings versus satisfaction. In most cases the two are not completely compatible and you have to make choices and compromises. Depending upon your situation (responsibilities) you can lean more to one side or the other.

As a trained lawyer you have many choices, corporate law is probably the most lucrative and being a civil advocate is probaly the least lucrative. You might also considering contract administration or management for a business in an area that you like. For instance I enjoy audio equipment and listening to music, so a good job for me might be contracts management for a company like Velodyne or Klipsch

Figure out your needs and desires and find something that balances the two.Need advice about changing careers. How do you narrow down what it is that you want to do?
Think about the things you enjoy doing--not just work, but hobbies as well. What is it that engages you in such a way that time seems to fly by? Break it down into the skills you use to do the things you enjoy. Then look for careers that utilize those skills. Check the Department of Labor's Occupational Outlook Handbook for possible careers:

There are tests you can do free online to see what your personality would match. If you liked being a lawyer, why did you leave? If not, decide what you did and didn't like about the job and look/don't look for those traits in other jobs. i.e. if you didn't like working with people, don't go after sales jobs, etc... You'll find something you're truly happy with! Just keep at it!!!Need advice about changing careers. How do you narrow down what it is that you want to do?
Quit being so nit picky. You made good money as a lawyer, so go back to it and stop complaining. Life is to short to bounce back and forth. Ur question reminds me of my decision making days about my career.

Career planning is a continuous development process through which we attempt to understand our personal, family, school, work and community experiences and the significance they are likely to have in building career and choice of lifestyle. We need to identify opportunities and to identify options. We need to examine our personal interests and skills as they relate to a variety of career opportunities to help us make appropriate and realistic decisions. Keep in mind that the goal of exploring career is not just employment but a purposeful of integrating our personal interests and values with the kinds of work that are most satisfying for us.

How do I go about changing careers?

I am currently a mechanic and have been doing this type of work for the past 5 yrs. I am currently going to school get my associates degree in business management. I am tired of turning wrenches and being dirty all day. I do have some management experience but not much. I am pretty good at it. I currently manage the shop that I work in. I want a job that isn't so dirty. What should I do?How do I go about changing careers?
That management experience you're doing now is valuable. Keep that going. Also, go ahead and put yourself out there in the marketplace as the department manager. Introduce yourself as such. Look carefully at how your current company helps you to develop into a manager. You may have to leave that company in order to get a 'fresh start' as a manager...they may not see the change that you see in yourself. Good luck to you!How do I go about changing careers?

How do i get a recommendation when changing careers?

I want to go to school in the medical field after graduating from a school in art. I feel like im abandoning my art ways but im also interested in working in radiology or ultrasound since high school but dumb me i went to school for art. Some of the schools want me to send them letters of recommendation. how do i do that when I already went to school for different career? can i get them from friends or able to get them from high school? they might remember me. what should i do?How do i get a recommendation when changing careers?
It's probably better to get letters from your professors than from your friends. Your professors might not be in the medical field, but they can attest to what type of student you are.

Since you've been out of high school for four years, only ask for a recommendation from a h.s. teacher if they knew you very well and have a lot of good things to say about you. Since you aren't sure they remember you very well, it's probably not a good idea.

Get them from your teachers, or people you have worked with. Even though it is a different field, you have study habits and skills which will continue. You have the same basic intelligence. And you have the same work ethic. You may not have the applicability to being a radiology technologist or US tech, but neither does anyone else who is applying.

Friends are a poor source for recommendations, as they have no credentials, where teachers and employers are considered more credible.

What kinds of jobs are a good start for someone making a career change from social work to business/MBA? ?

I currently work a case manager for a non-profit organization. I am no longer interested in direct service, and decided to go back to school for a degree in business. I am half way through my MBA program, however, I am finding it very hard to find entry-level jobs in business (of any kind) with past experience in social services. I need advice on how to approach the job-search in this situation, as I am focused on changing career paths. What kinds of jobs are a good start for someone making a career change from social work to business/MBA? ?
    look toward the banking industry!!!

How do you go about changing careers?

I have been working in the printing industry for the past 8 years, doing everything from operating the till %26amp; photocopiers to graphic design.. right now I am at a branch on my own doing photocopying for a hospital and have the glamourous title of site manager.. I am currently bored in my job and have reached as far as I can in the company, How do I go about changing careers, (I don't have enough $$ to go to uni) and what other careers can I look into.. regarding the type of experience I may already have?? also I don't want to take a step back from what I earn and would like to keep going forward without going stagnent as I feel I am now??How do you go about changing careers?
Do you like managing, but just not at that site? Check out www.careerbuilder.com and put together a resume and register. There are a LOT of positions for a person with management experience. If you do a search on that website, I'm sure you will be able to find something worth applying for.

It sounds like you have some aspirations to move into a more responsible position. And with your skills, I'm sure you can.

You may think you cannot return to school because of the expenses. I thought that too. But I did a FAFSA, which is the Federal Application for Financial Student Aid, and I found out that I qualified for both Pell and SEOG grants, plus some scholarships. I'm also taking out some loans, but those do not have to be repaid until I'm out of school.

You also might find out that you can find a job that offers tuition reimbursement . In some jobs, they will pay so much per year towards your courses, or reimburse you part or all of your expenses based on your grades.

If finances are the only reason you don't want to go to school, then I'd strongly recommend checking on this.

And I'm a mom of two, married, work almost 30 hours per week, and attend school full time and I'm in my 40s. I also commute over an hour to class (one way) and have disabilities as well. But, I'm motivated because I want a better life for myself and for my family. It's tough, I have very little time for fun (this is the most fun I have - answering questions on Yahoo!Answers). But it's worth it because my earnings potential will be a lot stronger. So, if I can do it...How do you go about changing careers?
The first steep to change is to know what or where you are going. May I suggest you take a %26quot;career aptitude test%26quot; you can take these off the net.

Best of luckHow do you go about changing careers?
You have to know what you want to do first, but if you're open to suggestions, how about massage therapy? You can get technical training fairly quickly and cheaply, compared with college. You can still be your own boss or work for another company.

If you were writing a resume after changing careers, how would you choose which format to use?

I will be graduating in May and one of my classes requires a written resume. My previous jobs include restaurant management, hospital unit clerk, telemetry monitor on the cardiac ward, and HR manager. My future career will be as a physician, however the job I am to focus on for the assignment would be related to a bachelor's degree in biochemistry.

Would it be better to focus on specific abilities from these jobs or to continue with a chronological format. Also, should I focus on the classes I have taken to prepare for my degree such as labs and neglect job history or should I include job history and just do a basic overview of my college preparation. Is it necessary to include grade point and test scores (MCAT)? Thanks for any advice you could pass on to me.If you were writing a resume after changing careers, how would you choose which format to use?
I can bring my resume over for you to see. You should include all of the above in different locations on the resume. There should be a place for all relevant background, and some that isnt relevant. You never know what the employer is looking for. I'll bring a copy of mine over that you can keep and look over as a reference. I also have a lot of books on resume writing I can dig out.

How do change career paths, is 36 too old?

I am looking into changing careers. I have a bachelors degree in Communications. After I graduated from college, I wanted to teach Art but I ran out of money in undergrad and Art teachers started getting laid off.

I have unpaid student loans and I do not want to pay for a master's degree with student loans.

I am interested in school psychology. I can't afford to pay for a master's degree. I also graduated with a 2.4, but I have 12 graduate hours with a 4.0. My grades in undergrad were low due to stress from my mother's ongoing divorce and I worked part-time.

What are my odds of getting accepted in a masters program?

I can pass the classes, but I do poorly on standerdized test. Any tips on how to take mutiple choice test like the GRE?

I would like to change careers to nursing. How do I know if I'm cut out for it or not?

I'm currently working as a Medical Market Research Analyst. I'm not happy working in the Corporate World. I'm a nurturing person who loves to help people. The longer I work in Medical Market Research, the more interested I become in the medical field. Right now I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business but would really like to go back to school t become an RN. How can I be sure nursing is right for me? I am 40 years old. Am I too old to make this change now?I would like to change careers to nursing. How do I know if I%26039;m cut out for it or not?
You're never too old! There are no limits in life when you want to change things for the better. There are no life police...If you have the money, take the chance! But if you're afraid of blood, and other unsightly things you find in a hospital, maybe it's not for you.I would like to change careers to nursing. How do I know if I%26039;m cut out for it or not?
You are not too old. Try some part-time volunteer work on weekends. Hospitals are always looking for volunteers. I don't think you are too old either, but companies do look at age. I think if you can get into a nursing program, go for it! I just read in the paper about how many people are applying for nursing schools %26amp; not getting in because of shortages in nursing teachers!! So don't just apply at one school, apply at several.I would like to change careers to nursing. How do I know if I%26039;m cut out for it or not?
They are right!!! You are never too old. My mother recieved her bachelors in Business when she was 35 and last year at age 45 she recieved her Masters in Theology and is in school now. Next year she will have her Masters in Business. Before you just apply to a school---even though you have a bachelors, you are going to be starting the nursing program for scratch because it is very different---, try it out first. Search local hospitals websites and look for volunteer opportunities that will give you both direct and indirect patient care. In my state, there are a few non-charitable hospitals for children and adults. Find out what your preference is. The hospital i used to work at women would make blankets and stuffed animals for the children who had surgery. It meant a lot to see smiles on their faces even though they just had their arms/or legs amputated.

I have to admit not all the nurses I worked with liked their jobs. Some become nurses because of the shortage and the pay but their hearts are not in it. Patients can tell the difference.

How do I change careers into an office?

I have worked as a beauty therapist for 6 years now and am looking to change into an office based position. Without any actual experience in office work, how could I do this?

I have a very good knowledge of reception / customer services. I can use a computer well, I can type ( not at like 100wpm but I can type!!) and I am fast to learn things. Also, the company I work for at the moment has a PR company as well as their spa, which I have done promotional and marketing work for.

I have had a lot of stick so far from recruiters because I am a therapist - they all seem to think that because I trained in that I should stick with that - and to be honest, it's getting a little irritating that people are shocked or confused that I might have gotten bored of beauty and want to try something else!

Bottom line is... How do I get the required experience if nobody will give me a chance in the first place? How do I change careers into an office?
Firstly, I'm the opposite - I've worked in an office for 5 years and would love to train up as a beauty therapist! lol.

You may have to start out as an office assistant or junior administrator which won't require as much experience. This would give you the option to work your way up once you have proved you are good at the job.

Or while you are still a beauty therapist, enrol at college to do a couple of courses such as word processing, CLAIT, touch typing or business administration. Then when you have got a qualification or 2 under your belt contact some recruitment agencies who will then search for suitable positions for you.

The fact you have been willing to learn new skills for an office based job will look great on your CV xxHow do I change careers into an office?
Try employment agencies such as Manpower and Kelly Services. Okay, the pay is not good and the assignments often temporary (although that means if the job is pants, at least you know it's not forever). A lot of companies take on permanent office staff if they've been impressed by their performance in a temping role. How do I change careers into an office?

How would a math teacher change careers to the engineering field?

I have a BA in Math w/ a concentration in Management Sciences. Multiple courses in computer science and physics. Also have a Master in Math Education.

I need a change of career! My passion lies in the engineering field but at 27, I do not want to go back for another 4 year degree. I am willing to take engineering courses if need be, but do not want to sacrifice another 4 years.

So what would you suggest? I have been looking into internships and entry level positions, but any thoughts or recommendations would be great! How would a math teacher change careers to the engineering field?
It sounds like you have a lot of the prerequisites taken care of already, and a degree in electrical or mechanical engineering probably wouldn't take more than about two years. If you have a local college I would suggest calling their admissions office to see what their policy is on transfer students. You might only need to take the actual engineering courses, and transfer the math and business courses to take care of their %26quot;core%26quot; requirements. Most of the first two years of engineering is math and science anyways. Another option is to take a specific class, such as process controls, and then attempt to get hired as a specialist. With your background this is possible, especially in process controls. The class will be taught through the chemical engineering department, but it's all math and programming. You might be able to get an internship with those credentials. Good luck.

start thinking about the job that you would like. Here's a good question: if you didn't have to work, what would you spend all day doing? Is there any way you can get paid to do that thing? Obviously every job is going to have some crappy aspects, but you should try to do what you like for your job.I am a Accountant looking to change careers, any suggestions?

Accounting sucks, because it is a staff job. Go where the action is: marketing %26amp; operations.

  • Have you successfully changed careers in mid-life? How did you do it?

I am a 35 year-old college-educated professional who is interested in changing careers after spending 13 years in sales and sales management. I recently left a lucrative position in sales management because I was being forced to relocate out of California and I didn't want to relocate.

The problem I have is that I don't know what to do next and am not sure how I should go about exploring opportunities. I'd like to hear stories of how other people have %26quot;started over%26quot; again in different careers after working many years in one field. How did you find the 2nd career? How did you make the transistion? What advice would you give me?Have you successfully changed careers in mid-life? How did you do it?
Yes, you can change careers, but you must remember you will be starting over at the bottom! So if you do make a change be sure that the career you choose is your passion. What do you really enjoy doing? If you enjoy cooking you may look into going to Chef's school. If you enjoy photography, look into taking classes at a university near you. You may enjoy being a stock broker or financial planner. Changing careers usually means going back to school for course studies in a particular area. My husband was an attorney, and decided to open a coffee shop. It has been so successful that it became a Cafe' and now we are selling it......it's taking too much of our time and energy. He does a lot of writing, so this is probably the direction he will take until retirement. I will continue with working in my home office and try to enjoy life. Take care and God bless in what ever you do.Have you successfully changed careers in mid-life? How did you do it?
I went from being an advertising sales executive to being an R.N. in my (very) late twenties.I was downsized and couldn't get my foot in the door anywhere else without major relocation so I looked at the want ads and saw there was a big demand for nurses. I went into a two yr associate degree program for R/N. and now -by careful planning-I make more money than I did before!Have you successfully changed careers in mid-life? How did you do it?
At 35 yrs old you are still a young man.Have you successfully changed careers in mid-life? How did you do it?
Would you like to stay in sales? I am in serious need of sales people in California. You seem to already have the background. I changed careers and formed a corporation that I can't even keep up with the demand right now. How I did it, it was tough at first, but after 3 years of struggling to build what I truly wanted it paid off.Have you successfully changed careers in mid-life? How did you do it?
    Hi there,

I drove heavy transport vehicles for 25 years.

I became very sick and it nearly cost me everything.

I have been online now for sometime and really like that freedom i have got from it.

It was very scary at first as I was in an invorment that I was not used to. I decided to get some professional help and that has been the best bit of advice that I have even taken.

I suggest you be teachable and try to learn whilst earning to soften some of life's hard knocks.

Have you thought about an online business? you may be able to train people in the art of sales. I know of people that do very well at this.

You could write an e-book on how to become a good salesperson? Build a website then take it from there.

If you want any help feel free to e-mail me

    uskiwi5@yahoo.com

Hope that helps you a bit.

Best of luckHave you successfully changed careers in mid-life? How did you do it?
I switched from tech droid to electrician , after awhile the combined skills got me a 3rd %26amp; more financially rewarding job than the previous 2.

There may be a period of economic 'swing' but since you resigned, I am sure you covered that base by saving and budget adjustments until the new career gets rolling.

For now, go start with a temp agency , so you can sample different jobs before making a long term commitment.

good luck !Have you successfully changed careers in mid-life? How did you do it?
I worked for many years in the oil and gas industry. At age 36 I decided to make a career change. I went to the local votech school for 8 weeks and learned truck driving. My only regret is that I didn't do it 20 years ago. My company treats me great, I have a very nice truck, no real boss looking over my shoulder, and make pretty good money and am home every weekend. I usually wear blue jeans and a t-shirt and take it easy most of the time. And still make more money than a lot of people who live each day stressed out. If you don't mind seeing the coutry and getting paid to do it, maybe you should think about it. If I quit my job today, I could have another one before tomorrow ended.

Should I change careers (again) from Real Estate to Teaching?

It's time for another career change, but I'm terrified of making another mistake. I'm in my early 40s. Been in Real Estate for the last 4 years. The market was much better when I started, but even then I never developed the skills or even the desire to do it for the rest of my life. I was in IT management for 18 years prior to RE, and got totally burned out. The pay was much better, and certainly more consistent. However, I have no real desire to return to IT. I've always considered teaching, but never pursued it. I have a masters degree. I've done a lot of technical and also IT training and even RE Training. I think I would enjoy teaching on the college level, or perhaps even doing training full-time (without travel). I live in the DC metropolitan area. I need a way to research the higher education field before I jump in. I have no idea how to get started. I need a mentor who's currently doing this type of work, maybe someone working at a local college/university.Should I change careers (again) from Real Estate to Teaching?
I cannot be your mentor but I am older and wiser. Pursue your dreams, as time goes by very fast believe me. When I was young I always dreamed of being a Elementary School teacher and I planned to go on to college after high school. I would have been the first person in my family to go to college. Unfortunately a turn of events happened that changed my life. My father died unexpectedly of a heart attack when I was 17 1/2 just about to go to my first simester in Brooklyn College. Because of his death, I had to drop out, and go to work to help support my Mother and younger brother. I got a good job but I was really unfullfilled and so depressed over my father's death. I married at 21 to a Police Officer and had three children and for whatever reason I never went back to college. Now I totally regret it as I would have made a great teacher. You have the education, your masters, and there is really no research to do..go for it. The first thing you should do is choose a good college and speak with the counselor and see what you would want to teach. Listen, after my husband retired from NYPD, he went into Real Estate and made a very lucrative living, but he became an alcoholic, and had to quit, so Real Estate is the type of business that is very tricky and you can make tons of money or starve. Go for teaching...it is rewarding and with your education, you probably can teach in a university and make a good living. Best of Luck to you...My advice, follow your dreams so you will not have any regrets later in life.Should I change careers (again) from Real Estate to Teaching?
4 yrs the trthis it a bit old ? will b there 4 idiot couple.

pe detere= go 4 tch%26gt;Should I change careers (again) from Real Estate to Teaching?
Did you ever think of visiting your local tech colleges to speak with their hr people about compensation per course taught, etc. You could do that part-time in addition to real estate or IT work part time.Should I change careers (again) from Real Estate to Teaching?
STOP the train. You are 40 plus and still %26quot;trying to find your niche, huh?%26quot;. If you think IT %26quot;burned you out%26quot; wait until you begin teaching, at any level. Teachers are generally college educated trained baby sitters. There are so many laws and regulations to comply with that teachers no longer teach. They %26quot;comply%26quot; with this directive and that procedure while trying to discipline (IT programmer trademark) students who will not listen or pay attention because you are violating their civil liberties and you can end up on the carpet everyday for not producing as the ISD has directed. Yada, yada, yada. Got my drift? With your extensive background in IT, find a job as a %26quot;trainer%26quot; with a respectable company. At least your students will be adults who are paid to be there and eager to learn. Else, ask your Realtor Broker to let you become a trainer and teach young promising RE agents become super stars. You can %26quot;teach%26quot; them the text and I'm sure you got enough experience in 4 years to pass on some of that experience plus and minus. If you still %26quot;want%26quot; to be a teacher take a vacation from RE and go fill out an application at any ISD for %26quot;temporary/substitute teacher%26quot;. Feel the waters and find out if you can put up with that environment for 22 more years until you qualify for social security retirement. Teaching is no longer a %26quot;profession%26quot; as in the 50's and earlier. It is a %26quot;job%26quot; and a %26quot;pay check%26quot; and neither very good. Good luck and God Bless you. You'll need both.Should I change careers (again) from Real Estate to Teaching?
Go to your local college or university and take an assessment test or career scope test. It will help guide you in your areas of interest and strengths. Also they can guide you to what vocations are needed in your area and in the next few years. You are not “old” but for high school and lower levels of education, districts like younger teachers. Teaching employees or college level might be good for you. They like the experienced instructors. The cost of the test is usually under $30.00 and well worth it.Should I change careers (again) from Real Estate to Teaching?
For me yes if you know that you can enhance more of your knowledge why not. It can help you to find a better careers than you have now. And you can get more experience with your life.

How does a person decide whether to change careers or not .....any advice?

Currently at cross roads in my life I think, I am married with 2 children ( ages 9 and 11 ). At a job now that pays me pretty good money for the work that I do. I have been in this type of business for almost 11 years now, and its not 9 to 5 or with weekends off. I am just starting to realize that I would like to be home with my kids on weekends and holidays. I am 31 years old, which is not old but not young either. I have the option of going to school tuition free, which is also an option.

But we do have a life style that we all have grown acustom to, which makes it even harder to decide. If anyone has any words of advice on my diliema, I would be happy to hear it.How does a person decide whether to change careers or not .....any advice?
Spending more time with your family is priceless. Especially with the children being so young, once they are older they won't WANT to spend so much time with the family. So if you can change careers without putting the family under financial hardship that would be wise.

Maybe you need to take a year or so to lessen your expenses and in the meantime interview for jobs, take your time and find the perfect job and it may work out. Good Luck!

Random advice - should I change careers?

I have a good job as a regional trainer. I travel 3000ml a month within a 400ml radus, fixing diagnostic equipment and training techs how to use it. I skipped 2 promotions in getting this position. It's fun and varied and pays the bills.

Up until I broke my leg on a business trip. I've been out on disability since Thnxgvn weekend and I'm getting apprehensive about returning to my 10-12hr days. Then, outta the blue I get a bounceback on a local reporter job I applied for 6 months ago. If they offer me a comparable salary, I am very tempted to accept. My hubbie and I are looking to start a family soon and even as the working parent I don't think I can psychologically be away from my kids 12hrs a day.

I haven't been offered anything yet, so I may just be getting ahead of myself, but is it selfish to want to spend more time with my family while doing a job I might actually love instead of one I just like? I love working with computers and teaching, but I love writing, too.Random advice - should I change careers?
The best advice I can give you is to stop asking for random advice and consult the people who know and care for you.Random advice - should I change careers?
You only get to live life once. Figure out what makes you happy. I don't think it is at all selfish of you to want to spend more time with your family... are you kidding??? 10-12 hours a day is a lot. I would find out more info about the new job before you make any sudden changes, and if it works well for you then go for it! Live your dreams!Random advice - should I change careers?
you must want to take the new job

because you don't say anything negative about it.

why not take the new job.Random advice - should I change careers?
    I don't think you're selfish at all.

Starting a family requires a lot of time and effort. Lots of parents have kids, then begin to re-think the whole prospect. Then they just ship them off to grandparents or hire babysitters, or even worse, just let the TV raise them. I think you're making a wise decision. Do what you love.Random advice - should I change careers?
It sounds like you know which one you would rather do. That's always the right option (99% of the time)

I say go for it.Random advice - should I change careers?
In terms of career development, planning is essential, as you want to still be at that level of experience along with the receipt of competitive wages. Perhaps allowing things to play out as you experience them might be the best estimate of time and choice.

The reason you might be so apprehensive about entering your previous work environment again, could be mainly because you know you put in way too many hours for that little amount of pay. (especially with you getting hurt while on the job) Plus, it's only half-hearted because you also enjoy writing also.

So, why not have both...if you plan to work after having children, make sure that your insurance is covered via one job, and work the one job part time(and most times writing you can do from the home while with your children, unless you are called out on reports)...and that's if time allows you, but do keep this in mind...even though you are planning now, children do change your life and what you think you might not have done, you end up doing...(especially if it's for your children meaning Stay at Home Mom)so this is why I say...allow things to play out and see from that point on. Feel better soon...Good luck..and be Safe..(smiles)Random advice - should I change careers?
Based on what you've said, it sounds like you're looking to have a good family life. That is, you realized how much you were not looking forward to returning to the 10-12 hour days - and that's after a broken leg! Imagine yourself after giving birth and being on maternity leave with your newborn baby. As a parent myself, I chose the job that would allow me the flexibility of staying home with my son. And like I said, from reading your predicament, it sounds as if you'd be the same way. I didn't %26quot;love%26quot; my job, I liked it - but for all the love you have for your child, if you don't hate your job, all the love you need will be waiting for you as soon as you clock out. Plus, you can always change careers later, but it's the time with your family you won't get back.

Talk to the career center at your local university or community college. You do not have to be a student or alumnus to use their services. Most of them offer testing for either aptitudes or interests and the cost isn't really high. They will not just administer the test and hand you results, they'll actually talk to you about the types of work that you might want to consider based on your test results.

I did this when I got ready to leave a job a few years ago because I knew that the career I was in wasn't for me. I didn't take the aptitude test but I did the interest inventory. It helped me to narrow my search down to a few things. Once you have a field in mind, talk to people who work in it. They can tell you how people prepare for different jobs in that field. In many cases, you can volunteer or intern. This is a really good idea, since studying something and doing it for a living are completely different. I did both of those things, and it helped me tremendously.I am looking to change careers but im not shure what is out there.how get info about other careers?

How to change career from support to programming?

Hi there and thanks for stopping by!

I have over 3 years experience in desktop and systems support but I am terribly bored with support. One area of my work I enjoy is writing scripts and so I've decided to change career and become a developer, Win32 and low-level development is of particular interest.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could achieve this career goal? I'm 31 and need the monthly paycheck of my current job so full-time education is out!

    I eagerly await your responses.

    Thanks,

TPHow to change career from support to programming?
Details? Being a programmer is not really for everyone.. I for one wanted to exclude that from my list of 'to be' but is seems i'll have to do it because I like it and i'm very interested in this.

Do you know C, C++ .. hmm Scripting languages? Depends on what you want to program... You could also apply for a job at Microsoft if low-level development is one of your interests :D.

How can I convince employers that I want to change career and that I am the perfect candidate for the job?

I wish to change career from a field in science and pharmacy to a more people-oriented position that is completely irrelevant to my past exeperience. How can I convince potential employers that I am serious about my job change? Should I be honest and write in my cover letter the truth and my goals? Thanks! How can I convince employers that I want to change career and that I am the perfect candidate for the job?
Look at the education and %26quot;soft%26quot; skills that are required for the new field. Have any of your past positions required those same soft skills? Do you have any of the relevant education? Might try to get more of the relevant education, and play up my soft skills on the resume... don't lie or falsify any information, just emphasize those skills sets that fit with the new career.

Emphasize your maturity and proven work record in applying the skills that fit the new career. It's perfectly OK to say you want to be in a more people-oriented career field... just don't rash your current career or employer.

These days, many people are switching careers. Until about the early 20th century, most people didn't live much past their early to mid-forties (except wealthier people). Back then, many people showed advanced symptoms of what we today consider to be %26quot;old-age%26quot; diseases by their early forties. You can *apply* to get into a different MOS but it doesn't mean they'll accept it. A lot of money and resources will go into training you to do whatever your MOS is. They don't want to waste money to retrain you.

Need advice on how I can change careers. Sick of Corporate Life?

How can I change careers to get out of the Corporate Rat Race? I am 32yo, I have a Masters Degree in Biology and 5 years of experience in software systems for Life Science companies.

On top of that I have 4 years of Business Strategy/Management Consulting experience including 3 years of International Experience and 1 year of Managing consulting teams. I live in NYC and just want to get into something cool, creative and without that %26quot;big business%26quot; feel.

I am happy with a low salary. Nobody seems to respond to my resume for these positions. But I somehow want to get in without going back to school. I'd like some kind of Media, or Design type work. Any ideas?Need advice on how I can change careers. Sick of Corporate Life?
I was in the same position a few years ago - completely burned out. I quit my job as a laboratory director and went home and started an embroidery business. I still do some medical laboratory consulting, but I love not having to leave my house if I don't want to.

Find something that you really love to do, get some training/education in it so you can become at least competent, if not an expert, and then lauch your own business. Make sure you identify a product or a service that people want and need and are willing to pay for. Fill that niche and you will be happy and successful.

If you like graphic design, here's a good idea to start a small business online. Create vectorized artwork for embroidery digitizers! I'm a digitizer for other embroiderers, but I'd love to create a stock design catalog of my own work. The problem is that it's really hard to come up with original designs. If you can provide artwork to digitizers, you can make some money.Need advice on how I can change careers. Sick of Corporate Life?
Yes I have some ideas with the experience you have an degrees you have. How much more education do you need? Because of your qualifications and skills. Employer think that they will have to pay you more. So that's were people who are qualified with less experience get the job. Because employees can offer them way less pay. But don't worry! You can start a business of your own something you like to do. Do research on whatever it is that you want to do for yourself. To start a business, go to the bank and set up a business account, which does not cost much may $25. to $50. And get license to start, also you like to get an attorney to for legal advise. People think that it cost a fortune to start a business. Word of advise always believe in you. If you can accomplish getting a couple of bachelor degrees. Know that you can achieve in starting a business. Good Luck! On your success

  • Christians: When you may need to change careers, your job?

Serious answers only please? Thanks for your respect!!!

I say Christians, because as always, sarcasm not welcome.

When looking to change jobs or careers, and after praying about it,

HOW DO YOU KNOW GOD'S WILL?

OR WHICH DIRECTION TO TAKE?Christians: When you may need to change careers, your job?
Great question! Prayer is the ultimate; pray for guidance on what to do, pray to have the strength to do His will, not your own. It is human to get fed up over situations, and ready to leap, but patience will encourage a knowledgable next move. Changing careers is a huge leap, start preparing: update the resume, applications, enroll in classes, etc. Pray before every interview, fast and meditate to open your mind. What God has for you is yours only, if it is time to make this leap, He will open doors for you, if not, be patient, He has something better and is preparing you for it. As a Christian, you know when God's hand is involved in your life, when that job comes you've been praying over, you will know if it is anointed. Many blessings to you during this phase of life!Christians: When you may need to change careers, your job?

Follow and pursue peace --- if you don't have peace then stop and pray until you do.

I would ask very specific questions of God and ask Him to give you confirmation because you want to make the right decision.

God really does give us a lot of free reign. He will sometimes be okay with you pursuing what you really want. He may have put the desire there in the first place, so approach God confidentially and with trust.

Thanks for Asking ! RRChristians: When you may need to change careers, your job?
Have you ever done a Beth Moore bible study? I have been doing them with some women at church and one that we did answered my very question about this.

Beth Moore (who, in case you don't know, is a very devoted Christian woman) suggested that God will sometimes put you in a role or job that is out of your comfort zone, but your desire to do it will be there. When my husband and I found out that there wasn't going to be a youth leader at our church because the others were stepping down, we were terrified of taking over because we have no experience with teenagers (we have a 3 yr. old, but that doesn't help!). But God used the Holy Spirit to put that desire in our heart. And now almost 2 years later, we love being the youth leaders!

If God wants you to do it, He'll give you the desire.

God Bless! =)Christians: When you may need to change careers, your job?
After being ill and unemployed for a few years, it was time to get back to work. I applied for all types of positions and had many interviews. I applied for this position about three times, because they had already hired someone, she quit and it was back out in the classifieds. I love my job and it fits my personality perfectly. If you pray and ask God to lead you to the job that is just right for you, then He will. don't be discouraged if you have interviews and not hired, because your perfect job is on the way. Trust in Jesus, because He wants to bless you and allow you to be a blessing to others also. I think that blessing others at my job brings more joy and satisfaction than anything else. I love them all, pray for them everyday and they care about me also. I do feel very appreciated for the work that I do.Christians: When you may need to change careers, your job?
I don't know it's as clear as some make it sound.

Yes, definitely pray about jobs and do your homework as well. I think at times that the reason we end up in a job is for reasons we won't understand at the time--or possibly ever.

For example, sometimes we need to learn gratitude and I think sometimes we get awful jobs to teach us that.

Or we may get a weird job where we learn skills which will later be indispensable.

Other times maybe we are put in with a lot of unbelievers to serve as a witness.

Some times it's really good use of special skills, especially if you've been gifted in a healing art, for example.

Perhaps we should not assume that we are to have A career or that a job will last for a long time. There can be reasons we don't appreciate why we will change careers or jobs and I think we have to be open to that. If we make a mistake and don't pick up on what God wants, He'll take another tack to get our attention--IF we are open to Him. He definitely makes lemonade out of lemons. So I think that those of us who may stumble about more blindly may actually be doing what God wants though we don't feel any such assurance of it.

God tells us to use our minds, so in the absence of a %26quot;knowing,%26quot; I think we make what seems the most logical choice and take it from there.Christians: When you may need to change careers, your job?
This question is confusingly written. God does not help you in your career choice. He is not a good luck charm. You make that decision all on your own.God is always present in our life but he does not do everything for us. We are here to serve him.

    Should I change careers now?

I am a private duty LPN. A few months back I had to do CPR on my patient, she's only 27 and I am very close to her. Now I am having nightmares and panic attacks. I think the two are related. I want to quit but being so close to the pt. and her family I just don't know how to do it. Any real help is appreciated.Should I change careers now?

Continue your career as a LPN .. it is a good field to be in, but switch to another, less risky, patient or go work for a hospital. The fact of the matter is people do die even with your best efforts. It is too stressful to be taking care of a person you are %26quot;close to%26quot;. You are going to have to separate yourself personally from your patients and understand that none of us can control the death process...we can just do our best. Your experience has made you fearful .. you are concerned about what is going to happen if this happens again and you are in fear of the responsibility .. which is not unusual .. most people do not want to have somebody elses life in their hands. If something was to happen to the patient it would NOT be your fault, but that does not make it any easier to deal with. You would be better in a hospital environment where the responsibility falls on quite a few shoulders rather than all on you. Find a job in a hospital and then tell the family and the patient that you are sorry but this is an opportunity that you can't pass up .. give them the name of a local agency so that they can find somebody else .. there is no reason why they should not be able to do that.Should I change careers now?
Hi Chrissy, I am sorry to hear you are having nightmares. I had started to go to school to be a LPN, but after watching my friend's sister pass away I didn't go. I can understand somewhat of what you are going through. If you want to check out a company called Arbonne this may be a fit for you. You can start it while keeping your other job. I know alot of people that use to be in the health care field that have gone into their own business with Arbonne. You can check it out at http://www.wonderful.myarbonne.com and on the right hand side of the page their are links you can click on to hear about the company. Hang in there sweetie.

At what age or point in life is it too late to change careers?

I just turned 30, and I麓m feeling... old. I麓m afraid that my life has passed me by.

Right now, I麓m studying to be an EFL (English as a Foreign Language) teacher. This is something that I have always wanted to do, and I麓m looking forward to it.

However, I don麓t think that teaching EFL is meant to be the career that I do until I麓m 80. I chose this because I got to the point in life where I had to choose SOMETHING, or choose inertia. I just keep having this nagging, gut feeling that there is some perfect profession that was made in Heaven for me to do... but I have no idea what it is. Furthermore, if I were to have a family, I would need something more lucrative to support them. EFL is something I麓m excited about but it doesnt exactly pay a six figure salary.

I麓m scared that, whatever it is, that it麓s no longer open to me because I麓m too old. I麓m so scared it麓s passed me by.

Furthermore I never got married or had children and I麓m scared that if I were to change professions at my age or older, that it would be too late to have children by the time I got established in it. I麓m scared that I麓m running out of time to have children and a career. On the other hand, if I were to have children, I am scared that the door to changing careers would be closed.

Am I right in thinking this way? What professions are no longer open to someone my age? If I were to have children, would it be too late to change careers?

I麓ve already graduated college and I was teaching Spanish in North Carolina, but it was hell. In North Carolina, they treat teachers horribly. I did a teaching practice in Mexico and loved it. When I麓m certified to teach EFL, it would be awesome if I could stay in Spain and teach here (I realize how difficult that is for an American), or go back to Mexico.

I don麓t think I ever WILL get married, and I麓m not ready to. The thought of being tied down and staying in one place drives me crazy. But I do worry that my chance has passed me by and I am scared that one day I麓ll be old and alone, look back, and regret it.At what age or point in life is it too late to change careers?
One friend of mine got married at the age of 57, one year before she retired from being a public school teacher. %26quot;...Per AMA article found on google, in 2004 Clarence Nicodemus (D.O.) graduated from an Osteopathic Medical school program at the tender age of 61. Great article in which he claims that retirement is the period in one's life when he or she can and should do what they always wanted to do; so for Dr. Nicodemus it was becoming a doctor. Good one on him...%26quot; Another friend taught for 18 year, was a principal for 12, a superintendent for 18 and then decided to retire and get her Ed. D. She then went back and taught at the university for 12 years.

People who think they are too old are right, they are, and then they die ... the young at heart just keep on going.

Being old is like fine wine ... the longer it is in the bottle the more value it has ...At what age or point in life is it too late to change careers?
You're never too old to change your career. If something else attracts you and you think you could find happiness doing it, go for it. Life is short.

If you are suppose to get married, you'll meet him when you least expect it. it never happens when you are looking. At what age or point in life is it too late to change careers?
your never to old to change a career that you went to college for, i am 45 and just finishing a tech school on computer repair..but it still intend to get a AS in it later and then go a far as I can go

Teachers: How do I change careers-Is it even possible after 15 years? !!?

I've been teaching for over 15 years. I'm divorced and pay child support. I can barely save 100.00/month and have wanted to return to school for the past 8 years. My divorce took everything I had; My home, savings, half of my retirement, and now almost half of my net income each month. Has anyone out there been in a similar circumstance and managed to change careers? I'm 38 and would like to work in design. I have skills as a 3D artist but I have only a few months of training with 3D art. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who taught at one time, found it to be as disappointing as I have and was successful changing to something more %26quot;rewarding%26quot;.Teachers: How do I change careers-Is it even possible after 15 years? !!?
There are worse things that working at a job you do not enjoy but I can't name any. IMO it is never too late to change careers. Can't be any worse than what you face now. Give it a shot. This may sound cold but I really feel sorry for you, caught in a system designed to break you down. Good Luck!!Teachers: How do I change careers-Is it even possible after 15 years? !!?
This is the exact reason why I ALWAYS discourage my students from being teachers. It may seem cool and altruistic to a high school student, but in cold reality, a person with an education degree is severely limited in their options. It is much easier for somebody with a content area degree to become a teacher, if they want, than for somebody with a teaching degree to get a job in their content area.

With very few exceptions, degrees in education are looked on as not really being degrees in the same sense as, say, a degree in English, or Physics, or Engineering (my degree) is. And NOBODY except education majors considers graduate degrees in Education or %26quot;educational research%26quot; to be anything more than fluff.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, and I hope you find something. Maybe Art won't be such a stickler for a degree at all! A good resume and an even better portfolio may very well be enough to get you out of the soup!

I currently work in media planning at an ad agency, and to be quite honest, I absolutely hate it. The crazy long hours, the stress... I hardly get to see my family. But the pay is good, and since my hubby is prone to job layoffs (he's a teacher), I feel I need to stick it out. I really want to change careers though. I would like to pursue a career as a dental hygienist. I think the hours will be better, the contact with new people will be fun, and the pay will be great. Any former accountants who changed careers?

Hello, everyone. I am at a crosspoint in making major decision on whether I want to choose accounting as my career and breadwinner for the rest of my life. I would like to hear from people who used to be an accountant on why they changed their careers. I have few Qs.

    1. How was the real world of accounting different than what you learned in textbook and classroom in college?

    2. What made u leave the field of accounting and change your career?

    3. How do you determine whether you will succeed in accounting or not? Is it mostly based on how well you do in accounting program in college? Is there any other way to anticipate your performance?

Thanks in advance for any insights.Any former accountants who changed careers?
Accounting can be as exciting as you want it to be. I don't think you can judge accounting AT ALL from the way it is presented in the classroom...*boring*....

If you enjoy computers, you can be a consulting accountant to help install major computer systems. Try converting thousands....to millions of customers over a weekend to a new accounting system.....with no change in the quality of service to the customer.

If you enjoy working with people you can sign on with a public accounting firm and work with various clients throughout the year. Always a different mix of customers.

If you are analytical, you can do research and due dilligence for mergers and acquisitions.....or forensic investigations of white collar crime.

Throughout your accounting career you can switch your path for varying degrees of challenges and opportunities..

I've never left accounting....but I've hopped around from large corporations to small ones....major to minor players.

If you enjoy challenges and digging into details, accounting will be a good fit for you. If you enjoy puzzles where there is only one good answer......accounting is the place to be. If you work well under deadlines and enjoy publishing a finished product every month....then stick with accounting!

Required schooling to change careers ?

How hard is it for a someone with a masters degree in one field to go back to school to get a law degree? I am curious how many extra years of school it would take for someone to change their careers in that way.Required schooling to change careers ?
You can go to law school with a degree in any field. You would not have to complete extra years. Your LSAT scores and GPA would be the determining factors. Actually, you can go to medical school with any degree. The only problem is that some majors do not prepare you as well as others to do well on the MCAT. Likewise, a person who majored in Criminal Justice or Political Science is likely to be more prepared for a law school admissions test than someone who majored in Drama..Required schooling to change careers ?
The best thing to do is call a university and speak to someone in law's advisement!Required schooling to change careers ?
Most law schools require three yrs. to complete. That is, if you taking a fall %26amp; spring semester each yr. You may finish Early at some schools if they offer summer school courses.

You'll basically have to complete three yrs. of law school no matter what type of previous education you have-including a master's degree in some other field.

    How can I change careers?

I have been in admin for 5 years. I hate it. It is the only thing I know, though. I hate being at a desk all day. I go bonkers sitting still. I cant even sit through a movie. The only other skill I have is writing which doesn't pay well until you are established which could take years. I do not have a college degree but am desperate to get out of admin. I am between jobs now and cringe at the thought of going back and sitting at a desk for 8 hours. No offense to those who love office work. I wish I could be more like that but I'm not. What other careers could I pursue that are not office but pay decent? How can I change careers?
The trades are begging for young workers, electrician, plumber, pipe fitter, shipwrights, welders, machinist. They don't pay as well as being admin but darn close and much better than office staff. A welder makes about twice what a receptionist makes but the work isn't as steady so they won't make as much as a lower level admin position. Ship sups also make an excellent living some can make more than corporate officers and they spend most of the day on ships or docks not at their desk. Also look at Estimating and in our company the safety and environmentalists is out all day keeping people safe and dealing with problems. How can I change careers?

Have you considered sales? Real Estate? Mortgage? Stocks? You may have to be in an office but you will be a lot more active. I'm not in sales so I only speak from assumption, but there is a lot more hustle involved with a potentially big payoff in sales. This is only if you are ambitious and want the business. I have friends that make a killing in the mortgage business and they work HARD. They wouldn't last a minute in a cubicle. I hope this helps a little.

How old is too old to change careers?

I'm currently working in manufacturing. For the past two years I've been layed off from time to time and feel that eventually the plant will close. I'm wondering if I should plan ahead and get a CNA degree while I'm still working. Even though I'm in good health and physically fit I'm feeling insecure about making this change because I'm 52. Serious feedback please...and wise cracks are welcome too.How old is too old to change careers?
It's never too late to change careers. Most people now a days won't be with the same company their entire working life. I am always up for learning new things and challenging myself. How old is too old to change careers?
I think you would be fine. There is a shortage in nursing right now, which means that employers would be much more open to nontraditional employees. Besides, you probably have much more patience now than you did in your early 20s, so you might be very good at it.How old is too old to change careers?
I would be very careful. You might want to talk to potential employers to see if they would hire a mid-50's old new-hire. My guess is they won't. It might be great for your own personal accomplishment, but economically it might make zero sense.

I recently made a career change and I love what I do now.

How many career changes have you made so far in your careers?

I used to work in accounting (years ago) and have been working with computers for about 15 years (programmer, db, java). I am thinking about changing careers but REALLY like the money I get now. What careers are out there for a 30 something male that still needs to support a family? How many career changes have you made so far in your careers?
You really don't have a lot of options when you have the responsibility of a family. Your first duty is to them. In my case, I changed careers about 3.5 years ago from secretarial to private auditing. But even as a secretary I changed jobs a lot and worked in a wide variety of industries and their respective departments. Maybe you're less bored with being a programmer than you are with the type of company you work for. Stay in the field but go someplace else. How many career changes have you made so far in your careers?
zero. I had two internships in public/non-public accounting. The idea is to work for leading company in your field and then start your own business. Now you do not have to re-develop the wheel. There are learning curves to stay ahead of.How many career changes have you made so far in your careers?
all your experience you could do jsut about anything you want. any employer would like a manager who could fix computer problems too ;) i would go for it. i have worked in management, finance and now am one semester away from beign a nurse lolHow many career changes have you made so far in your careers?
You'll find almost all the options in the Occupational Outlook Handbook:

    http://www.bls.gov/oco/

You can change careers as often as you like as long as you don't mind starting over as a newby each time. I've changed careers three times--you can read about it here: http://www.wordedwrite.com/

How can I best change careers from marketing to branding design?

I have a BA Marketing with Film and Media and after c. 7 years of working in marketing for blue chip financial services companies, I'm intent on changing career direction to brand design/corporate identity. I recently completed an MA Graphic Design, but am finding it tough to make the switch.

I've good commercial experience, but am finding my lack of design experience is a hurdle. I now work 4 days a week in FS and 3 days taking on freelance work to boost my portfolio. My designer friends say I'm crazy to want to change careers (due to differences in salary). Any suggestions on how to make the switch would be appreciated. How can I best change careers from marketing to branding design?
Forget what your friends say! Do what makes you happy. It's very possible to land a job at a branding agency, but you should be mindful of how your skills match up with what they're looking for. I got my undergrad degree in graphic design and bounced around for a few years as a web designer/developer (in fin. svcs., much like yourself) and project manager before landing a job at a branding agency as a strategy consultant. There are lots of roles at branding agencies OTHER than design that would allow you to use your design skills AND client/marketing experience from financial services to be a benefit to the company.

I actually went back to school to get more business experience before I got my job, so don't get discouraged. Just remember that branding is more than just logos and brochures. There's a lot of thought that goes into understanding all of the competitive forces facing a brand before anyone ever sketches a prototype or fires up Photoshop. Going this route worked for me. I hope it works for you, too. Check out job leads on sites like RGArecruiting.com for an idea of all of the different positions available to someone with your skill set. Good luck!

I've heard the typical person changes careers 7 times. How do you make the switch?Advice on completing a successful career change?
getting a foot in the door has alwaysbeen a big hurdle, you may have to start in a smaller company or volunteer some time in an appropriate position. The biggest helper is knowing someone on the inside who can vouch for you. If you have a good attitude and work ethic, you'll make it.Advice on completing a successful career change?
well, find your market value in the market and job hop. Accept only if the pay is at least 20% more than your current job.Advice on completing a successful career change?
Paul Zane Pilzer is an economist who worked for two different U.S. Presidents. He also predicted the dot.com boom. He predicts that the Network Marketing Industry and the Wellness industry will produce the next millionaires for the next 10 years. Find a reputable Networking Marketing Company and work for yourself and make as much money as your actions dictate.Advice on completing a successful career change?
Go back to your school's career services office and ask for help, contacts, etc.

Then start working your contacts. Network, network, network. Always ask for advice and recommendations, rather than asking for a job. They'll be much more willing to help. Talk with people in the roles you want to be in and ask them more about what they do and what organizations they belong to. Call those organizations and ask for a list of members or member companies in your area. Always ask people for permission to tell others that they referred you before dropping someone's name. Network, network, network. Keep lists. Send thank you letters. Follow up. Be positive, persistent, and engaging.

You'll be employed in 90 days.

How do I change from teacher to news reporter? ?

I am an English teacher, with both a Bachelors in English and a Masters in Writing. After 9 years of teaching, I am wanting to change careers. I don't know how realistic this dream is, but I would love to work for a news show, either on air or off air. Do you think I need to go back to school for a degree in Broadcast Communications? How can one get a start in this industry? Any ideas would be helpful. How do I change from teacher to news reporter? ?
If you have a degree - or any alternative qualification - then you'll already be in advace of of the crowd when it comes to hunting for careers. My friend has a degree and he wasn't sure what direction to go with it, eventually he went in a completely different direction, he earns his keep from Google alone. Have a look at the site below.

  • HELP - I want to change Careers?

I just graduated with a B.S in accounting and Finance but I hate my profession. I've worked as an investment accountant for a year while I was in school. I HATE IT. I'm looking at different career options at the moment. I'm considering NURSING but I have no background. How should I start this? I am so confused. Please suggest something. Can I still do nursing even though I have NO SCIENCE background. Should I start with CNA certification?HELP - I want to change Careers?
you probably dont need to start over. since you already have a BS/BA degree, look for programs that are accelerated BSNs or MSNs in nursing that aplicants already have a degree.

in my school, we have an accelerated generic MSN program that applicants of a BS/Ba degree non-nursing go through. in the end, they'll still have their BS/BA degree but will also have an MSN in nursing and the curriculum is 2 years though it is rigorous. others might have an accelerated BSN program, it all depends on the school. there maybe some prereq requirements too but some schools dont have them. check though.HELP - I want to change Careers?
go to a community college part time but continue with the job you have at the moment ( its very hard to get a job these days, especialy finance) and take courses in bio, chem, science classes that can get you there. even talk to your doctor and ask about classes you can take. research online, the internet is limitless :) good luck!
