How can I study to be an Art/Design teacher whilst currently in full time employment?

I want to change careers but need to know exactly what I need to do to become a teacher (as above). What qualifications are needed and can then be done as an evening course or home study? Thanks. How can I study to be an Art/Design teacher whilst currently in full time employment?
What Guru2 said but with this addition

If you want to teach in an FE college you can do the PGCE in post compulsory education n the evening but you would need to be teaching, either as a paid teacher or as a volunteer. How can I study to be an Art/Design teacher whilst currently in full time employment?
Assuming you're in the UK, you can't.

You can study for the required GCSEs (grade C+ in English and Maths minimum requirement) and A-levels in the evening (not as distance learning or online).

If you do not have a degree or equivalent qualification (which you must have to become a teacher) then you could follow the Open University courses online and by distance-learning.

Otherwise, and assuming you aleady have a degree, then you can either take the year-long PGCE course (full-time) or possibly take a SCITT or GTP course (full-time, but 'learning on the job').

How do I overcome the lack of a degree with 25 years of experiance?

I am looking to change careers, but have no degree. I have 25 years of experiance but can't get my degreeless resume past the HR folks. How do I overcome the lack of a degree with 25 years of experiance?
I am in the same boat. If you have ever attended school, list it. I put my degree I was working towards, even though I didn't finish. Then I put in small letters, not complete. Or as they say-might be time to get that degree. Boy this world has changed overnight. How do I overcome the lack of a degree with 25 years of experiance?
why not go back to college or take courses in continuing studies? this way, you can indicate on your resume that you're working towards a degree. that would get more notice than not having a degree at all. it's never too late to go back to school. and in this market, most employers find those with a masters degree more appealing. also, organize your resume, so that it shows your career progression (increase in responsibilities, e.g., supervisor to manager, to director, to vp, etc). How do I overcome the lack of a degree with 25 years of experiance?
I can't help you, but I know exactly what you mean. Nowadays experience counts for nothing, and a little piece of paper means everything. Consequently businesses are filled with educated idiots, and incompetence runs rampant. How do I overcome the lack of a degree with 25 years of experiance?
LUCK. Sometimes even though you know a lot of people in the industry - you will still have a hard time getting in or getting promotion. You will be hired, but, somebody new, will be on top of you inspite of long experience you have. Companies also look for stability and competitiveness of employee - if your knowledge in the job has basic charateristic - like you don't have the modern skills and knowledge that you will only get from school - you will just be supervised by a new comer who is much younger than you and sometimes you have to train them too. (And of course, that hurt your ego). How do I overcome the lack of a degree with 25 years of experiance?
You don't say what type of position your looking for. A lot of companies will take %26quot;x%26quot; years applied experience in place of education.

While it's getting harder %26amp; harder without a degree; those with a solid work ethic and years of hands on experience can still qualify for really decent positions. How do I overcome the lack of a degree with 25 years of experiance?

How can I find a financial sponsor for grad school?

I have a family %26amp; cannot afford to pay tuition. I would like to change careers, get a master's in a medical profession so I can help others. I don't want to take loans or be in debt. Any philanthropists out there willing to help? How can I find a financial sponsor for grad school?
I'm not a philan. but I would advise you to looking at graduate assistantships, fellowships, and scholarships. There is so much money for grad school, its ridiculous. I have 2 masters degrees and got both of them fully paid for by being a graduate assistant in the residence life department. Not only did they fully fund my degree, they also gave me a monthly stipend, housing, a meal plan, and professional development funds to take trips to conferences across america. So just in case you don't find that philan. try seeing what the school and the government can offer you. Hope that helps!

How do you start afresh with something completely new when you are demoralised at work?

I am a mortgage adviser but would like to change careers but don't really know what to do or where to go from here! How do you start afresh with something completely new when you are demoralised at work?
You poor thing! It certainly is time for a big change. I have found that when I'm not passionate about/fulfilled by something my 'inner voice' or spirit or whatever you want to call it makes me so miserable that I'm forced to make the leap into something unfamiliar and new.The usual questions are: What are you passionate about? What things do you love to do,and time flies? Take off the blinders of what you've previously thought yourself capable of, or whom you can be. If there was no restriction, absolutely none, what would you do with your life? What sort of things have you been putting off? Imagine you are an old woman near the end of your life; look back and create choices and a sense of self you'd be really proud of. I know all this sounds really cliched but life is too short to be in jobs we hate, when there are boundless opportunities and possibilities. It's all pretty exciting really. I've found keeping a journal and seeing the world really helps too. Leap and the net will appear! Good luck and blessings to you. xHow do you start afresh with something completely new when you are demoralised at work?

The first thing you have to do is get rid of the poor me attitude your present job may suck but you are working. Next sit down and write a resume take your time and get it right. Then look for jobs that appeal to you and apply. for each position you apply for write a cover letter that outlines the attributes you have that can be utilized in that particular position for which you applied. How do you start afresh with something completely new when you are demoralised at work?

I was in the exact same position as you: I was in mortgage sales for 5 years, the last year of which was commission-only!

While I was commission-only, I had to rely on my parents to pay my bills because I wasn't making any money. It was real bad: I defaulted on all my debt, my car got repossessed, my boss was an abusive jerk and I had to move across the country to live with my parents. Needless to say, I was depressed.

You are faced with a wonderful opportunity to leave sales behind and pursue an actual career instead of having some stupid sales job.

The first thing you need to do is identify what you actually enjoy and pursue making that into a career: do you like history? teach history/write a book on an historical subject. do you like growing a business? get an entry-level position in marketing (not sales!). are you still not sure what you want to do with your life? go to college and get your BA/MA/MBA/PhD in a subject you enjoy.

After I allowed sales to destroy my life, I went back to school and got my MBA in 2003. I found out I like investments and securities, so I am now pursuing a career in Investment Analysis (and wouldn't you know it...it's one of the most difficult professions to break into!).

A few thing of what you need to expect when leaving sales: you will be offered many sales %26quot;opportunities%26quot;, read scams. Do not take another sales job ever for the rest of your life. You must commit to this principal and stick with it.

When looking for a start in a new career, you will inevitably be asked why you are pursuing the new career given you experience in sales. Answer that you discovered sales was not the best way to achieve your career goals. This will prompt a follow-up question from the interviewer what your career goals are; have a clear answer ready with goals set for 5 years in the future. Example: My career goal is to become a Portfolio Manager and I expect to obtain my CFA within the next 5 years and obtain a position as Associate Portfolio Analyst during that time.

Remember, the number one thing you have to do is identify what it is that you truly want to do with your life and career. The best way to do that is to do what you enjoy.

I'm still on this journey to get on the career path I want (doing low-level temp work to pay the bills while I get the job I want).

You need to be patient and have clarity of purpose.

Good luck! How do you start afresh with something completely new when you are demoralised at work?

I am sorry that an employer is doing this to you.How do you start afresh with something completely new when you are demoralised at work?
I'm with you on this one! I'm in work, but it is so dull that my mind wanders and I am so un-motivated that I can't even think about doing something else. I have found that all the jobs advertised on the net or in the papers are all IT, caring, HR, or sales, all of which would be more dull than what I am doing now! and I'm not qualified for any of them. list your transferable skills, see which of those is the best bit of what you do now, then expand on that. Right now, the best thing on my list is lunch time and Yahoo q and a's! really need to expand my list! good luck, and if you have any breakthroughs, think of all of us and let us know how you did it!How do you start afresh with something completely new when you are demoralised at work?
Try the jobcentre, the local paper, college or the internet ... if you're earning a good wage, you might have to take a big pay cutHow do you start afresh with something completely new when you are demoralised at work?
If you're likely to be made redundant in the near future, then that's a great opportunity which can %26quot;force%26quot; you to review your life path. However, if not, then perhaps take yourself back to your younger days when you thought about what you would like to do when you %26quot;grew up%26quot;. That may give you some ideas.

There is available at the careers office (for a small fee) a computer programme that you can key in all your personal qualities, skills, social likes/dislikes - in fact a whole host of things about yourself, it then prints out a huge list of careers individually suitable to you and what qualifications you need to take the next step.

You could also have your astrological birthchart done, focusing on the type of career that suits your personality, that can give you some pointers.

Being demoralised at work leaves one in a very negative frame of mind, it might be a good idea to get out now, do something to tide you over, and give yourself time and space to think about something better.

But do SOMETHING!

Good Luck.

  • How do I get a job in insurance investigations?

I have a college degree and over 5 years law enforcement experience. Im looking to change careers but continue doing investigations. Does anyone know how to find these jobs? How do I get a job in insurance investigations?
The previous answerers have given you good leads, but I do want to add more options.

Have you ever considered pursuing a career with your state's insurance commissioner's office? There are several types of investigations done by these commissions, such as insurance fraud investigator, complaint investigator, market conduct investigator, etc.

The pay is not great. However, once you've gotten several years' experience under your belt, a private insurer will pay A LOT to hire you. I've seen some of my investigators leave for $65k-$75k jobs after only two or three years.

To search for these jobs, go to your state insurance commissioner's web site. Sometimes, though, these jobs will be listed on the state web site, instead of the agency site, so look in both places. How do I get a job in insurance investigations?
    Look on greatinsurancejobs.com

A job in an insurance company SIU unit can be rewarding and can pay more then law enforcement after awhile. It can be hard to get to an insurance company, but most of them love hiring ex-cops and ex-FBI people.

Be prepared for tons of office politics, overnight travel, crooked insureds, claimants, agents lawyers etc.

Also, be warned that insurance companies like to %26quot;downsize%26quot; so the job stability may not be there long term. Choose carefully and good luck. How do I get a job in insurance investigations?
get a license to be a private investigator in your home state and other states will probably reciprocate. Learn the insurance claims process. Market yourself to insurance companies and independent adjusters as a claims investigator, get a web site, some business cards and get out and do it. How should I target my resume for a job in learning and development?

I am looking to change careers from being a teacher to working in a company in their learning and development department. For example, being a corporate trainer.

What kind of things can I add to my resume to make me an ideal candidate? How should I target my resume for a job in learning and development?
I would look at the job requirements for a training job that you're interested in, and make sure you highlight skills and experience that you've acquired from teaching, that they also want in a training position. I'd definitely mention computer training you've received or taught, on-going education you've received, conferences you've attended, awards you've received, in additon to topics you've taught or been trained in.

If you've taught adults in any capacity, even in a volunteer position, I would describe it, since adult training is different from teaching children or young adults. Corporate training often involves working with managers and technical staff, so I'd highlight any experiences you've had with those. A trainer often has to assess client needs, develop courseware, deliver training, and evaluate training. I'd highlight course instructional design that you've developed, highlight the years you've delivered classroom instruction, and list any evaluation instruments you've developed. I'd list all the software you have experience with (Word, Excel, etc), and it would help if you became familiar with online instruction, since many companies are adding it to save costs. At minimum you should have taken an online course so you can intelligently discuss it.

    Good luck!

Web design is not just about coding or programming. I have met so many so called web designers that have NO design skills.

It's like hiring a magazine editor just because they know how to type. It does not make sense.

First, make sure you have the design skills to design aesthetically pleasing sites. Then, proceed with the programming skills.

The reason is that many small businesses (your market I assume since large companies already have a website or marketing dept.) don't need anything special that might require too much programming.

I am not trying to be critical, but you need to make sure this is something you want and can do before you waste your time with learning new things.

I wish you luck and hope you truely succeed.

FWIW, I use Coldfusion for programming sites that need dynamic interaction. However, I use straight HTML quite often. For jobs I do not have time to do, I use elance and get bids on jobs. How long does it take to build a web design business?

Unless you are in a heavily populated area with the right demographics, you might not get enough pet work to have a career. I guess it depends on how much you want or have to make to make a decent living. Photography is not an easy business to earn enough wages to live on. Everyone with a digital camera is a potential professional now. Do you already possess professional level skills and equipment? Without having the basics, you would just be one of the thousands of wannbes getting into the %26quot;professional%26quot; photography arena.

Assuming you have the knowledge, study and training behind you and the tools.

Do extensive research on the demand in your area.

Do a viability study. Write up a business and marketing plan, then if it all looks good go for it.

Also, how old is too old to change careers? I have had this feeling to change careers for a while and am starting to give it more and more thought all the time. My mom is a nurse so I know the hard work it entails and what the rewards are... She went to nursing school before a college degree was needed. Any ideas? Thanks.I already have degree in the humanties %26amp; want to be nurse. How much more schooling is needed?
Its never to late and you are never to old. You will still have to get a nursing degree. You can get an Associates degree or a Bachelors. Depends on how much more time you want to spend in school. It will take approx. 2 years for an associates ( since most of your pre-reqs should be completed) and 4 for a bachelors. A BSN only makes about a dollar an hour more, they do the same work and take the same national test. The only difference is a BSN is first in line for advancement. You should check your states Board of Nursing. In Kansas community colleges( ADN/ASN) have a higher pass rate for state boards than Universities ( BSN). If you cannot pass the boards, it does not matter if you have a ADN or BSN you will not be a nurse.Good Luck!I already have degree in the humanties %26amp; want to be nurse. How much more schooling is needed?
You are NEVER too old to change careers. Most important, you have to decide if the schooling will be worth it to you and whether or not you can physically handle the job. Being a nurse is VERY rewarding but also very physically demanding, especially bedside in a hospital. They work long hours and never sit still as I am sure you have seen from your mom. If you have a bachelor's degree already, you are ahead of the game - most of your pre-reqs will transfer and you will most likely have to pick up some science courses and then you can take the NET (Nurse Entrance Test) to apply for the nursing degree. The remainder would be two years, most of which is all of your clinicals. I recommend, if you can, to pursue the BSN program as most hospitals will look at that with higher regard these days and that will also allow you mgmt level growth for the future. Good luck!I already have degree in the humanties %26amp; want to be nurse. How much more schooling is needed?
    If you have a bachelors degree in humanities then you can enroll in an accelerated BSN program. I went to this one after having a BA in biology: http://nursing.fau.edu/index.php?main=2%26amp;

How can I maximise the chances of getting a good Job?

The current Job I am In is very boring and I am really not happy there. How Can increase my chances of finding the right Job that is suitable? I have been working In the Administration field for 8 Years and want to change careers possibly go into the customer service field, But My experience is in the Administration area. Anyone experience changing careers? Did you find it difficult?

Appreciate any advice. Thanks. How can I maximise the chances of getting a good Job?
Changing careers can be a difficult thing to accomplish. In many cases it can take you a step back or two in pay because you are essentially starting over. For starters in your case I would look into customer service positions that have similar qualities as your job...that way you can utilize more of your 8 years expierience.

Make sure you have an outstanding, and I mean OUTSTANDING, resume and cover letter. in most cases these are the only things that will get you in for an interview. Oh yeah and while it can be convienient for you to send your resume out by email, don't ever sit and wait for that call back from them. Investigate the company, find a phone number to that company and call them up. You may have to play detective in getting that name and number of a person to talk to, but trust me it will pay off by getting you an interview.

Dress for success. I don't care what kind of job it is, it is always important to look GREAT. Not ok, not good, but great. Have a clean suit, iron your shirt, have a nice tie, and shine them shoes. The first 15 seconds upon meeting someone is when they make most of their decisions about you. Much of that decision is based on how professional you look.

When you speak...make sure you speak loud and clear. Answer each question properly. Practice speaking with other people you know. Research the top 10 questions asked by employers and then research the answers to those questions. Proper planning for this will make you feel more comfortable in the interview which will in turn be conveyed to the employer and he will be more prone to liking you and want to give you an offer.

Finally when applying for a job make sure to put the proper amount for salary requirements. Many people seem to over look this and put way to much more than what the job is worth paying. So make sure to research the average pay for that position in your area of the country.

There are many other things to look into when going out there to hunt for jobs, but I think this gives you a great starting point to work from. Follow these steps and I am sure you will see some good success. Best of luck to you!How can I maximise the chances of getting a good Job?

If you're keen on customer care stick with it. You're always best at something that interests you.

Get help writing a CV. Accentuate the positive things you have done or are good at. Don't be frightened to blow your own trumpet.

Get library books on Customer Care and study hard on the subject. Ask advice from people in that line of business. They'll help you more if you bump up their ego by commenting that you'd noticed how good they were at it and wondered what their secret was. (Some people call that bulls**t but it's stood me in good stead for a lifetime!)

Make sure that you maximise the skills and training in your current job, get them to pay for training courses and make sure that you keep a list of what you have done and when. Consider speaking with your current manager and say that you are interested in more customer facing roles and see if there is anything available, even if it is just making phone calls this will give you good experience for customer services, you may also find that if you think about it you have had a number of experiences in your current role that would fit a customer services environment.

It is often not too difficult to change careers if you have teh patience to wait for the right opportunity, it took me a few years and a few job changes before I found the right position but I have found that coming from an administrative background gave me a wide range of skills to spread into other areas.

I believe that when your Sim gets a high enough level into their career they can choose between two different branches. In the music career I think it's either Symphonic or Rock music (: When that choice comes up, pick Rock :) It appears in a blue window in the center of your screen, so its kind of hard to miss haha :P

If you've already chosen a branch, you can always get your Sim fired by skipping work or going late for a few days and they'll eventually get fired, but if you don't want to wait, you can just go to anything that lets you pick a job (Newspapers, computers, etc.) and find the job you want. It will ask you if your sure you want to change your career, and you can click yes. :)How to change career branch in sims 3?

Anyways, once you pick the music career track, it will say %26quot;Are you sure you wish to change careers?%26quot; or something like that... and you say yes.

OH! I reread your question and realized I misunderstood. ANYWAYS, to answer your question... eventually, you will get to pick which branch she follows. So just keep advancing, and you'll get thereHow to change career branch in sims 3?

I can't really answer how you would go about changing careers because I don't know enough about your situation (where you live, your educational background, what kind of businesses are around, whether you can move, etc.), but generally speaking I would say that if you are interested in marketing, you might want to consider seeing if there is a school nearby where you can work towards a business degree.

If you already have a bachelor's degree, see if there is a school with a part-time MBA program (assuming you are not in the financial position to go full-time for an MBA). Most MBA programs have marketing courses or specializations that may help you get into the field.

If you don't have a bachelor's degree, see if there is either a four-year college where you can get a degree in marketing or a community college where you can get an associate's degree or at least take some marketing courses.

How does one become a licensed Home Inspector, what is cost of training, & what are average yearly earnings?

I live in Maryland and want to change careers. I am primarily interested in a career in residential real estate, but I do NOT want to become an Agent working for a brokerage/real estate firm. I also need to know how long it takes to complete any required training and the current job market for Home Inspectors. I welcome all answers directly related to my question, but please do not send links or offers for the many real estate investment programs that are available for purchase. How does one become a licensed Home Inspector, what is cost of training, %26amp; what are average yearly earnings?

I'm an x-ray tech in Ontario..

I think it's great...lots of different options within the field...currently I just work in general radiology so I get to be involved in trauma, daily x-rays, portable x-rays and the operating room..

I know starting salary in Ontario is about $52000/year.

But I have also been told it is lower in the states, but in return you go to school for a shorter period of time and I've been told techs in the states know far less and are not as high quality as Canadian trained technologist.

How do you apply for jobs at industrial/petroleum plants?

We have owned a photography studio for six year but feel now is the time to shut the doors however that means my 49 year old husband must change careers. We live outside of Houston and there are many, many industrial/petroleum plants. He is uncertain if he should go to the individual plants and apply at the personnel office or if he needs to find an agency that deals with the plants. Any insight out there for someone needing to change careers? How do you apply for jobs at industrial/petroleum plants?
You need to check with the individual companies. Sometimes they have a Human Resources office you go apply at. Others make you go to the Employment office. Or you might get in the door at a job placement center that you get daily work with the company, then if they like you, it gives you a better chance at them keeping you on.

If you understand what you are asking, then you know that the obvious is the

only answer. The need for school is not what is required. Your skills has

    prepared you for detail work.

Detail is what make the difference between an emergency handled well and

a botch job. It the people behind the sceen that make the emergency become

HELPChange Career into CAD/GIS from Web Design?
Getting a degree is the best option because it's usually a prerequisite for employment. There is more out there for GIS than CAD. Since you already have a background in programming, you may want to consider being more of a developer than creating the maps. There is a lot of GIS information being distributed on the internet and intranets, and a lot of customization is required by many different agancies.

Lately, the industry has moved toward a .net framework, so any skill with VB or C is a huge plus. Same with JAVA and python (creating your own scripts for analysis).

Going down this road, you will probably be an administrator for a website, and have control over its interface (layout, tools, etc). Usually ArcGIS Server, or ArcIMS.

But if you want to make more than 15/hour, get the degree. If you start using GIS now, you may be able to sell it your current job/company, and start it from the ground floor.Change Career into CAD/GIS from Web Design?

Advice on changing careers from counseling to journalism?

My passion is writing, but I also feel drawn to helping others, hence my choice to pursue counseling. I've always wanted to be a journalist, since I was a kid, but I didn't have the courage at the time I was in school to really go for it. It was such a dream, I didn't want to fail. So, by trying to save myself from rejection... I didn't try. Talk about failing. Anyway, I am a good helper, no doubt, but counselor...I'm not passionate about it, and I feel like I should be. Maybe the way I can help is through writing? So, anyway, I'm tired of being afraid of rejection and running from my dreams, so, now, I want to get into journalism. I would LOVE to find something with NPR. I am asking here because I want real person advice, not blogs and blurbs from the internet. How do I make the switch? Should I go back to school or will it make a difference? I already have a masters degree. So, any wisdom from anyone who's done it or doing it or thought about it? Thank you so much!!!Advice on changing careers from counseling to journalism?
Sounds like you have good habits for Journalism. I do alot of journal type writing, thus I incorporate it into poetry so to speak for music. It takes the inner thought, and to be able to present those skills it must be built upon habit. Counseling is a great mental habit. If you really like it then your already inspired. You have the wisdom you need just utilize it in your writing.

What helps perk your ideas is to use those analyzing skills on reading and how someone rights. Don't re-frame yourself from your passion.. Admit what comes across your mind and what you believe. They have classes you can take. A friend does stuff for magazines.

How to change career from MD to RN

Hello, I am a cuban MD but here in the USA is to hard to re-validate my license so i wanted to know if anyone knows how can i go to a school so they can do transcripts on my grades and give me a RN title?? Any help?

How to change career from MD to RN
Nope. The best you could do is get accepted to a Major University as a transfer student. Then see if the Nursing program will transfer any previous coursework you have taken as an equavilant. However be warned, every school requires you take a certain amount of coursework through thier institute to get a degree issued. How to change career from MD to RN
You will need to go through a US RN program. You may get most of the pre-reqs waived depending on a transcrip eval. I advise contacting a community college RN program as well as a bachelors program for eval. You may be an MD but you may not know all about nursing and that you will need to study. Also, American licensing law requires so much time from an accredited school. Good luck. How to change career from MD to RN
You have to have a nursing school evaluate your transcript to see what if any courses they will accept. You will have to complete the rest of the nursing program at the school. No one is going to %26quot;give%26quot; you an RN.

  • Changing careers. Need help?

I want to change careers desperately. The problem is that I WANT a job that has fewer responsiblities and with that comes less pay. I keep getting passed over for this %26quot;type%26quot; of job because they say that I am overqualified and wouldn't stay with their establishment because I would sooner or later find a better paying job and they feel as if they must start me off at the top of the pay scale and I would have no room for advancement. I desperately want to change careers and if it means much less pay -- I don't care! How do I let the potential employer know this without sounding desperate or like I can't handle responsibility? (I have been in the same industry for 8 years)Changing careers. Need help?
Explain to your potential employers that it's not about the pay--it's about what type of work you're really passionate about. It sounds like you are burnt out in your current career path and would desperately like to switch to a completely different career path. Stress to them that this career shift is a conscious shift, one you've thought long and hard about. Let them know you are fully aware of the differing payscale and tell them it is not an issue for you, as you really want the opportunity that this new direction could take you in.

Best of luck...I've been there and done it. It's a good move! :)Changing careers. Need help?
Tell the employer that you are looking for a job with less stress than your previous job.Changing careers. Need help?
First learn about the new type of job you want to have. Learn the lingo, what it implies. Then ask yourself why you want to change. Changing for lower responsibilities is not what an employer wants to hear. They want motivated people, go-getter, and ready to do the job. Your change should be motivated by something like: “I want to make a difference” or “it would be a nice fit or compliment to my existing career” or “I realized through my passed job experience that this new career would be a nice fit, or I made for this job”…..

The reaction from the recruiter should be that you have no experience to which you should respond that you are ready to take some pay cut in order to compensate for this inexperience. No way can you say you want less responsibility or a more lay back job. When recruiter turn down people they just look for a simple and inevitable excuse such as you are overqualified, because they do not want to be sued for discrimination.Changing careers. Need help?
I would simply say that I want to simplify my life. If they mention the lower pay, mention that you are prepared to down-size if necessary.Changing careers. Need help?

    Career change cover letter?

Should I explain in my cover letter the reason for wanting to change careers, or only focus on how my current skills can transfer over to the position I am applying for?Career change cover letter?
Just focus on how your skills transfer to the prospective employer's needs You can explain anything about your career change in the interview. Best of luck!Career change cover letter?
I agree with Ann -- you should definitely focus, in your cover letter, on how your current skills may be transferred. Your cover letter should be one page or less and does not need to go into too much detail about your reasons for changing careers. I also think that an emphasis on your skills and goals for your prospective position should be the focal point of your interview as well, unless your prospective employer asks questions specifically related to reason(s) for changing career -- in that case, you should emphasize the positive qualities of the new career more than the negative qualities of your %26quot;hopefully%26quot; soon-to-be former one.

Do you like dark brown? If not dye it.It time for a change and I am not sure how to go about doing it......?
I made changes just like you 3 years ago, when I was 47 years old. I started with the obvious first my teeth, I had them all covered in porcelain, I went to the Philippines to do this as it saved me $15,000.00 if I had it done here in USA. Now my teeth are white and straight. then I had an Obagi peel and did maintenance up to now, the result are incredible, it took years off. Then I took care of my hair, I went to a hair saloon and we discuss few things my hair was then Bob Cut up to the shoulder, they suggest I keep it but gave it a little layer and suggested that long hair is good for the style I am trying to achieve. Then they suggested highlights, the result are incredible!!!! I was very pleased. Now my hair is just above the waitline, I use curling iron to make it wavy or make it straight. Then after that, I headed for make up counters, I found MAC Cosmetics to be great. They did a makeover for me which cost $40 but if you buy $50 worth of products, then the makeover is waived. Then I bought few outfits for the new me at my favorite clothing store Ann Taylor, I spent very little for the 2 outfits I bought for casual to dinner wear. You see trying to change is not just hair you have to open your eyes on other things that needs a lift. Goodluck to the beautiful you.

Is 26 too late to begin a career in journalism?

I have always wanted to be a journalist but have never had the guts to put myself 'out there'. However, I would really like to change careers and am wondering how easy it would be to make a move into journalism - probably magazine.

I live in London and currently am looking at taking a part-time training course while I continue with my current job and maybe get some work experience - so far I have only had one article published although I do a lot of writing for work. I also have a degree in English.

Any advice anyone could provide would be seriously appreciated. I am also slightly concerned about a drop in salary so anyone who knows how much junior reporters would earn/how quickly they could be promoted I would be grateful if you could let me know.Is 26 too late to begin a career in journalism?
You are young. Make sure to start a portfolio of your writing samples for potential employers. The best way to build a strong portfolio is to start off as a freelance writer. Talk to editors and other writers. Most newspapers and magazine editors love freelance writers because they can count on one or two articles a week from you.

You can be really marketable if you also submit photos with your work.Is 26 too late to begin a career in journalism?

No it's never too late to become a good journalist - there is a shortage in fact. Maybe on blogger or blogspot. or try newsvine. Read my stuff on Newsvine then come back to answers impressed and give me top answer and 10 points. lolIs 26 too late to begin a career in journalism?
There are some good courses for journos at the LCP in Elephant %26amp; Castle. I recommend you contact some of the major publishing companies EMAP, Conde Nast, BBC, IPC and contract publishing companies like Redwood. Drop in salary i'm afraid goes with the territory. In time, your salary will increase and you will be happier and more fulfilled. Good luck.Is 26 too late to begin a career in journalism?
Of course it's not too late! My first journalism job was at 27. Many media companies prefer someone with real world experience. Depending on what career you are in now, you might try proposing a column or article discussing your current field (for example, %26quot;what it's like to be a real estate agent,%26quot; or %26quot;waiting tables isn't for the timid%26quot;).

I only know American media, but I'd suspect in London also that you're right about expecting a drop in salary.

You might have more luck starting out with newspapers. Start sending in articles, columns, reviews, whatever you want to write. But my advice is: start small. Look for smaller community newspapers and niche magazines. Those are more often looking for content and more often open to new writers. Once those papers and magazines run your items a few times, then you can start clipping them and getting a real portfolio together. Once you have a portfolio, you can present it to larger markets and larger magazines.

Email me if you want more info. Good luck!!Is 26 too late to begin a career in journalism?

No it's right age.Is 26 too late to begin a career in journalism?
It's never too late, just be prepared for terrible pay when you start. I have found my writing jobs in various places, but the more I wrote, the more I found myself getting assigned in a particular genre, and now I am primarily a nightlife culture writer. Many jobs I found through Craigslist, but my most steady (as House Editor for URB Magazine) I got after being featured in the mag itself! They loved my respsonses so much they asked for further writing samples which lead to me becoming a guest writer and eventually a section editor.

If you are submitting sample pieces for a freelance position, it souldn't matter much where you've worked in the past, i.e. your writing should speak for itself, but if applying for a salaried position at a paper/magazine, expect to start at the bottom if there is no previous experience.

Also, when submitting work, make sure it is relevant to what is asked for. One of the first writing jobs I applied for was %26quot;corporate writer%26quot; for Shure. The writing I submitted they said was good, but unapplicable to the speech writing needed for the position, and thus I didn't even get an interview.

    My favorite freelance writing sites:

  • Have any of you guys change their careers after 35? At what age?

what field were you in? What did you change to? how was the swich and was it worth it?Have any of you guys change their careers after 35? At what age?
    Hello friend!

It seems that you are either scared or at least unsure of what to do. First and foremost, do you want to change career? THAT is the first question you need to answer. It does not matter why, whatever your reasons, DO YOU WANT TO CHANGE? Please answer that question in a very honest way to YOURSELF.

Take a piece of paper, divide it vertically by a straight line, on the left write the FOR reasons why YOU want to do it, then on the right, the AGAINST reasons why you should not. YOU (personally) must know that you do or that you do not really want to change. Once that is established, you need to set your goals to get it done.

I am now 66 and I have decided to change radically when I was 58. I was in upper management in the Hotel/restaurant management industry at the time. I had a good income and enjoyed my work very much; However, my body and the people I was working with, gave me reasons to think about it. I could not go on that way for ever and I needed to do something more fulfilling. I also had decided that I would not want to retire, and that I wanted to continue working as long as I could because I wanted to be useful to someone, I wanted to give/share what I had learned all of my life. I decided to become a teacher.

Now, to answer your last question, YES and HOW! I am, after more than 3 years at the university here in Houston, EXTREMELY happy to have done so. I am still paying my student loan, and probably will for a few more years, and that is OK. The personal satisfaction of having done the conversion and the useful reason for which I did it, (based on the kids response) say that I was right all the time. I only wish that I had done it earlier in my life.

Well, that involved going back to the university for at least a few years, and all the sacrifices that that entailed. Was it worth it? What is the bottom line?

I changed because I had an ideal and desire which were unfulfilled. I am finally doing what I do best: be of service to humans who need it, and I am getting paid (badly!) for it. I feel needed and wanted. I have not reduced the number of hours worked, (at least 10 hours a day) but I increased tremendously the excitement of doing something worthwhile and to be useful to someone! What a treat!

Would I do it again? ANYTIME! I absolutely have no regrets at all on the contrary, and I do feel that I was right all along to do it. I am happy, completely happy, in spite of all the pitfalls in the profession and the tough kids as well. (yes, we do have plenty of those!).

If and when you do feel convinced that you HAVE to and want to change your career, GO for it and do it. Don't look back and look forward to the gain that you are about to get. Enroll you family into it if you have one, I did not. My family is overseas and I am divorced with no kids or kins around.

Just do not loose faith in yourself and in what you do. Believe in yourself! You will get there in no time as it is what you want to do most! It is what you want to accomplish above all to realize yourself! It may be harder to live with the regret of not having done it at all!

DO IT my friend, BE HAPPY! And good luck although you may not need it besides the will you can generate in your decision. Go for it!

How to begin a career in Insurance?

I live in NY and would like to change careers. I am considering the Insurance field. Are there any licenses required? Any schools to look into? How to begin a career in Insurance?
Here is a link to the NY insurance licensing department, a state agency. http://www.ins.state.ny.us/licinfo.htm

As you have suggested, there are schools that you may pay to attend. These schools mainly prepare you for the test/tests that you must pass to become licensed in your chosen field.

One suggestion, and something I did 27 years ago, is to simply check out the study manuals at your local library and save yourself several hundred in school course fees.

It is a wonderful field to be involved with, and I encourage you to get involved. How to begin a career in Insurance?
It depends on what line of insurance you want to get into, and exactly what you think you would like to do. I work in claims and there are different laws in each state as to what is required. Many states require an adjuster's license in order to adjust claims. I know that Agents that sell insurance have to have broker's licenses. Many insurance companies have their own in-house training classes and %26quot;schools%26quot; that they will send you to, and I know that some colleges will offer insurance courses that most employers will pay for.

The insurance field is an excellent career path. I have been working in insurance for over 30 years. The pay is great, the opportunities endless. Good luck! How to begin a career in Insurance?
To be an insurance broker, Life, Health, P %26amp; C, you are required to go to school and be licensed. Go online to the NY Dept. of Banking and Insurance to get the info on licensing requirements and schools.

I am not in N.Y. but will tell you, if you are young, and have multiple friends, family, and people you know, and have a great personality, go for it.

If not, don't waste you time with the deceptive practices, contradictions, and pyramid building you will hear and be faced with.

    Try www.monster.com

Their website has a feature which will help you create a resume.

Or, try a career placement firm (look in the Yellow Pages). They will charge you a small percentage of your first year's wages, but will help you with all your career needs. Good luck. How to change career?
    hmmm.....I know...how about managing a garage....maybe....imagine this....your own.How to change career?
I would suggest that you get a professional resume makeover for this new rollout. I went from food service for 10 + years while in college to a research chemist upon graduation w/ a B.Sci. in Chemistry. I wish I had a resume makeover. It wasn't until I copied the format of a friend's science type resume that I started getting a few hits...

I think the energy/oil industry might be a great place to do business. You need business savvy + mechanical knowledge...

Or how about the drugs/pharma industry?

Both of these are high growth areas.

    Anyways, good luck to you!

I'm thinking about changing careers and trying out the financial planning arena.?

I'm curious how much I can expect to make in my 1st year? How many hours per week I would need to work?

What are some of the obstacles I can expect to encounter?I%26039;m thinking about changing careers and trying out the financial planning arena.?
How much you make and how many hours you work depends on how many clients you get.

The main obstacle for my friend, who is a CPA, was getting clients.

Seeking advice on making a career change.?

Any advice on how to make a career change?

I am a social worker with a Master's degree and five years managerial experience in a health care setting. I want to change careers into something more creative such as writing, marketing, the arts, etc. Any advice on making the change and making my skills transferable to a different career?Seeking advice on making a career change.?
I think your social work experience and Master's degree will transfer well into anything that involves communication, problem solving, and conflict resolution.

This would be a good fit in Human Resources or Marketing (most reasonable transition). I think you should take some classes in Marketing or Human Resources and earn an certificate or something that validates your interest. But, since you already have a Masters degree, you may not have to do it. Just be sure to write down all your transferable skills on your resume when applying to positions in these fields. In writing, it may not be as easy a transfer unless you do a lot of report writing in your current job..which is possible for case reports. The arts is pretty difficult to transition since it would be a clear change and you would have to earn a Bachelors most likely in the Arts to change your career.

    Best of luck.

  • How to explain career change in an interview?

Say if someone decided to change their careers ?completely unrelated to one another ?and went back to University to get appropriate qualifications.

How can this situation be explained to the interviewer? They can be really tough and view the person in question as unreliable. Has anyone changed their careers? How did you explain the change to the interviewers? Feel free to share your experiences. Anyone is welcome to answer. How to explain career change in an interview?
Its tough, they may or may not have this view, likely they will, their job is to hire someone to make them money, bar none. I recommend honesty, if you lie or stretch the truth, someone trained to interview can usually pick it up. At the least, they will know that you are dealing with a straight shooter. I've told interviewer straight up, I needed more money, or I felt used and abused with no way out or up. You can go the whole passion rote, but they will probably see that as you being either selfish, or flighty: you get bored quick and have the kahunas to change. Either way, its bad.How to explain career change in an interview?
That can be a tough area to navigate but I would just be honest and tell the truth (as long as it sounds good). For example, I would say that you are heading in a new direction and feel your talents may be more valuable in the new field. Try to avoid saying that you got tired of doing that job or anything like that. That tells them that you are not dedicated. Good luck! How to explain career change in an interview?
Be honest and open to all questions. Make your statement as short as possible and to the point.

How do I talk my wife out of changing careers?

My wife wants to leave a pretty good job in public education to become a low-paid minister at a local church. She would go from a decent salary, annual raises, union membership, good health benefits, and a great retirement plan to meager pay, rare benefits and no summers off. Yet she thinks this is what she needs to do. Any ideas on how to talk her out of it. I don't want to be married to a minister. How do I talk my wife out of changing careers?
I know what your goiing through my husband is going to the police academy to be a city cop.But now he is almost through with school now decides he wants to do CHP.Which requires there own academy....which is more pay then city .....but still its sucks this means more time waiting for him to finish school work etc. But if she is determined and got her mind set shes going to do this.If you love her support her.If you really dont think you can live with this then you should go.Cause it sounds like she is going to do it no matter the pay.sorry i know you want tips on how to talk her out of this but its not going to happen. How do I talk my wife out of changing careers?
You have got to let your wife be what ever she wants to be or neither one of you will be happy. All you can do is hope she doesn't like it and switches back to the good job. It would be a good idea to talk her into trying this new thing during summer vacation as a trial first to see if she likes it first before burning her bridges. How do I talk my wife out of changing careers?
Sometimes you have to support your spouse even if you do not like their choice in employment... but if YOU are working a decent job... then i see no reason why she cannot try something new...maybe there are other aspects of the job that she views as positive that you don't see.You are only looking at it from the financial angle.....maybe ask her what are the pros and cons. How do I talk my wife out of changing careers?
Jeez. Although I think its AWESOME your wife has a good union job I think it is so selfish of you to hold her back from giving to the community. I'm an atheist and I think its admirable that she's wanting to give to her community plus it leaves a union job open for another family to benefit from. If you believe %26quot;this is what she needs to do%26quot; then why do you want to talk her out of it. It sounds like she's a very respectable human. I don't think you should talk her out of it at all. Learn to live with less money. I'm surprised the two of you are a couple, it seems your values are very different. Either way... think about it.. Its fine to talk to her about all of this.. but don't hold her back or try to make her feel guilty about lowering your standard of living.. there are so many things in life that are more important. Good Luck. How do I talk my wife out of changing careers?
Ask her to wait a year. Then if she still feels it is what she wants to do, then give her your blessing.

    or

Tell her to choose between the you and

    the ministry.

I can see why she wants to leave public education, but I am sure she can be both minister and work part time like so many other ministers do.How do I talk my wife out of changing careers?
Sounds like you are a materialistic person. All you mention in your question is everything about money.

Maybe your best bet is to divorce her. I would bet she doesn't want to be married to a man who thinks of nothing but money any more than you want to be a minister. How do I talk my wife out of changing careers?
Well, hopefully she is an adult and can make her own decisions!

What if she wanted to quit her job and be a stay-at-home mom, what would you say to that?

Is it the money thing, or do you just not like church people?

Do you ever feel restless? like you wonna change something in your life?

I'm going through this at the moment, Im thinking about changing career or travelling. I can't do anything straight away cause I have credit cards to pay off but I want to go do something now! How do you overcome restlessness and be happy with where you are at at the moment?Do you ever feel restless? like you wonna change something in your life?
Sit down quietly with a pen and paper.

Write down all your goals (from paying off money you owe, to where you want to travel to).

After that, write out an action plan. This will give you a clear picture of where you are and where you are heading. If it means that you have to stay where you are for the time being, so be it, but you will feel better knowing which way you are heading.

Good luck!Do you ever feel restless? like you wonna change something in your life?
All the timeDo you ever feel restless? like you wonna change something in your life?
have your goals and mind and do what you can to make them happen!

For example, you know you have this burdening credit debt. Get it paid off now so you can have fun and be free later. It is hard to enjoy a dream if you are financially strapped.

They also say where there's a will, there's a way. If you truly want these things to come true, and you work for it, you will find a way.

In the meantime, to feel as you are really working towards your goals, do some stuff to help you prepare. For example, if your dream was to teach, you can perhaps volunteer at a school to get a taste of it. Of if you really want to travel Asia, educate yourself, decide where you want to go. Or if you can do both with a short time commitment, if you can afford to financially. I spent one summer traveling in China, teaching English. The entire trip - 7 weeks, only cost $400 for me. There is a whole wide world desparate to speak English, you can make some money doing that. Maybe not ideal for your situation, but it definitely cured some restlessness for me!

I think if you are working towards your goals, it will add to your satisfaction of the %26quot;now%26quot;!Do you ever feel restless? like you wonna change something in your life?
    i feel like that everyday

unfortunately i have no freedon to do anything at my free will so i have to wade through it till i can

i say go for your dream...you may regret it later ^_^Do you ever feel restless? like you wonna change something in your life?
Take shorter trips and do things that don't cost a lot of money. Walks at the beach, take a picnic lunch. Free music in the park. There are things you can do and not cost as much.Do you ever feel restless? like you wonna change something in your life?
make a detailed plan (from how to save money to how to spend it and how to get back into a life without spending what you don't have). And slow down on the caffeine.Do you ever feel restless? like you wonna change something in your life?
Yes - all the time!! I want to up sticks and move abroad but have just started a really good job! What to do???Do you ever feel restless? like you wonna change something in your life?
Most of the time im restless about my goals. And i have felt it doesnt work...we should be more focused and focus comes with calm and stable mind.Do you ever feel restless? like you wonna change something in your life?
Yeah all the time but i'm a realist as well as a person who has their heads in the clouds, i think to myself that i will do/my dreams will coem true in the future, there will be a right time to carry out my dreams. I overcome it by spending time with family and friends treasuring each moment trying not to take time with them for granted and doing sports/things i like that's possible in the present for the moment.Do you ever feel restless? like you wonna change something in your life?
this is hard as i often get this way it is so frustrating i go looking for things that ive always wanted to do that are a challenge and different from lifes routine there i always plenty of things to do even if you cant afford much make a list and involve others you will be surprised at the crazy exciting things you can get up to its all about making the effort if you dont you will start doing stupid things you regret to stop your boredomDo you ever feel restless? like you wonna change something in your life?
I feel restless about the future too. What I have found to help is just thinking about the things that I would like to do the most and write them down. Then I think of different ways the I could try to make to come to light. I write down the ideas and then I try to pick the plan that would work best for the situation that I am in right now, not where I want to be or will be next month or next year. Then I take small steps to reach the goals I set. One of thing I like to do is talk with a friend who will help keep you on track. Someone who will tell you are on the right track and let you know when you are straying from the bigger picture.Do you ever feel restless? like you wonna change something in your life?
Every damn day. I don't overcome it, I just live with it. Sometimes it depresses me, I just live with that too. Sometimes you gotta just stick it through because you have responsibilities. I have a husband, kids, bills, family, things that have to be taken care of. So I can't go do what I want with life. Sucks being in a quarter life crisis.Do you ever feel restless? like you wonna change something in your life?
It's hard to overcome that restless feeling, at least for me it is. I was resltess in Phx. and moved to Kansas on a whim (semi-bad idea!!). Now I'm restless in KS, but am gonna get through college here that way I can move somewhere and have a better career opportunity. I go on vacations alot, even if it's just a mini-vacation to another town for the day, that helps. I plan out differrent vacations too, even if it takes me a while to make it there, I know I'm gonna get there eventually so that helps calm down my restlessness. Next stop is Tokyo, Japan, so knowing that and planning for it helps. So yeah, there's my answer.Do you ever feel restless? like you wonna change something in your life?
hard to do but simple to tell ya!

take educated risk in your life!

i.e. : normally i'm shy I would never go up to someone in a bar and ask them for there number

guess what i did i took that educated risk in my life and did just that!

i never called the guy but it was something i never did before so i had to try it!

    another example!

i am content with life i love my job there for don't feel i need to ask for a reaise they should just hand them out!

well i had to ask! boy it was hard and scarry but i got my raise!~

just take those risk when you ask yourself should i do this or shouldn't i do this just do it! as long as you do think some about it! dno't go jump off a bridge or anything that's why i say educated risk and stepp9ing out of your comfort zone!

try it at least 2 times a week you will notice your self feeling more and more ALIVE!Do you ever feel restless? like you wonna change something in your life?
fuckedifaknowDo you ever feel restless? like you wonna change something in your life?
Begin to plan now while you are paying off your debts. Collect all the information about the place you want to go to or the career you wish to have. Read everything you can find. Make a scrapbook of your plan and decide things like, how much to get somewhere, or how much for the education, or what clothes will you need, or tools. Keep pictures of your dreams and plans in the scrap book and look at them alot as well as update it whenever you come across something which relates to it. By the time you can afford your changes, you may have a very well organized plan ready. Best to ya.Do you ever feel restless? like you wonna change something in your life?
Sounds like a vicious circle. You may feel trapped by the debt and want a change - but the debt keeps you back. You may need a plan. If you are young enough you may want to decide a realistic time in which you can get rid of the debt. During this time you can also plan the next phase.

What motivates you? What will you be doing in 5 / 10 years time? Why?

How long should you stay in a career to make the time you spent getting the education worth it?

If you know that you want to change careers in the future, but you have only been in your current one for a few years, when is a good time to change? Especially, when you got a masters degree for your current career? How long should you stay in a career to make the time you spent getting the education worth it?
As long as you are enjoying and feeling fulfilled in your career chocie. That is and individual question that changes for everyone. No one can make a choice like that for someone else. if you are happy, then why change? Would you change because everyone else is or because it is now the %26quot;cool%26quot; thing to do. The trend in life now is to have 3 different careers, so keep up with the Robinsons? There is no set rule that says you ever have to change careers. That's because, you don't. It is all up to you and your want.

    Career change advice?

I am considering changing careers. I am working in the Pharmaceutical industry, however, I do not feel as though I am in the right place. I have a Business degree but not sure what options I have other than Accounting. I would like to know what careers as an Accountant to Buyer is like.

I graduated from college 8 years ago and have already settled. I have a home and student loans so it would be difficult for me to start all over from the bottom again. I would also like to get some advice on how to change careers successfully. Can anyone give me advice on changing careers?Career change advice?
Wow, this is one of the first times I agree with a previous answer. I don't want to repeat what a prevous response is, so I will just say maybe it's time to try another alternative as opposed to consistently doing what society says is the way to success. Another job probably will not give you the fulfillment you want out of life. It hasn't worked for 95% of the population, so what are the odds that it will work for you? Find your why, then find a way to achieve it.

    Best wishes...Career change advice?
The first question you need to ask yourself is %26quot;Where do I want to go from here?%26quot; What is it that you want out of life that you are not currently getting? Is it time freedom, financial security or is it a personal satisfaction that is not being met? What is it in your life that is not being fulfilled?

Your question above is very general in nature. In my experience, if you cannot define your %26quot;why%26quot; for wanting to change and if you don't have a plan for where you would like to be in the next 1-5-10 years, then you are not going to find what your heart truely desires.

I show people the importance of defining that %26quot;why%26quot; and then I show them how they can achieve the goals that they want and deserve.

I can give you information on a business opportunity. But for spam purposes, I would ask that you email me and I will gladly respond with a website for you to review. The information is free and it just might be something that you are looking for.

In any case, good luck. Just remember that you have to define you and what you are looking for before you can take any new steps in the right direction.Career change advice?
I assume that you are a Pharmaceutical Rep. and are tired of all the pressure that is mounted on you to deliver the sales. Sometimes a bit unrealistic. I am in the same shoes as you only that I am an engineer.

When you look at the compensation, benefits and flextime that you enjoy it is sometimes difficult to really pin point what you will want to do after wards. Try looking for something that will not be too much of a radical change because you might get bored and the next thing you know you will be out there looking for another Job. If you were in the pharma industry for 8 years then your are probably a sales driven, results oriented individual. So stick to something along these lines and you should be fine if the above applies to you.Career change advice?
Changing to another profession isn't too difficult, as long as the job you're after doesn't require a great deal os specialized training. But you need to bone up on the field and master the vocabulary so that you can sound like you know what your talking about. Your accountant background will be very helpful in many other occupations.

Your accounting job has given you insight into a wide range of business activities -- insight few other occupations can experience. That broad understanding of the business is highly desirable even when applying for a job that focuses on a single element of a business operation. I would say that's your primary selling point.

I'm curious what type of schooling I was need to look into, how people got the jobs that they are in, and what they think. Any thoughts???I%26039;m looking for a change of careers and someone suggested a travel agent. Does anyone have experience?
yeah, i've run across at least 5 travel agents, my own clients who have all but said things are rough and have needed help with their accounts either by forgiving late payments or needing to borrow some more to catch up on other past due credit. most industries are down but people are spending less overall, spending less on vacations, and spending even less on hiring people to make their travel plans for them. everyone's trying to cut the %26quot;middle man%26quot; out. a travel agent is definately a middle man.

In order to be a drill instructor, you generally have to be in the military. That is where the most opportunities are.

I would say the issue may be with your resume. You may need to do some updating. I recommend %26quot;Resumes that Knock 'Em Dead%26quot; by Martin Yate. It may not be that your resume is outdated but maybe needs to be reformatted to highlight your skills. There are sooo many different ways to format a resume and the above book will help with all aspects. The book is only about $13-$14. You could go into a bookstore and flip thru the book to see if you think it would be helpful or not before purchasing. Good Luck!

  • Advice on changing careers from counseling to journalism?

    Stick with the counselling, I know lots of starving %26quot;writers%26quot;

Worked for newspapers and mags their whole lives and never made any money.Advice on changing careers from counseling to journalism?
If you arent passionate about counseling, I wonder how much you are really helping. However if you already have a Masters it is a big expense to start over with something else. I like your idea about helping through writing. Why not consider writing a book or two about your counseling experiences? Also why not have your patients journal and share their writing with you? You would be surprised at what amazing writers some troubled people are. Also you could do something like put together a book of writings of your patients to raise money for the center where you work. You could also get a local newspaper to allow you to write an advice column on a regular basis. There are a lot of things you can do without stopping your life and going back to school. If you are a writer, be creative and find ways to use both of your gifts. Pax - C
