How do I go about changing careers?

I am currently a mechanic and have been doing this type of work for the past 5 yrs. I am currently going to school get my associates degree in business management. I am tired of turning wrenches and being dirty all day. I do have some management experience but not much. I am pretty good at it. I currently manage the shop that I work in. I want a job that isn't so dirty. What should I do?How do I go about changing careers?
That management experience you're doing now is valuable. Keep that going. Also, go ahead and put yourself out there in the marketplace as the department manager. Introduce yourself as such. Look carefully at how your current company helps you to develop into a manager. You may have to leave that company in order to get a 'fresh start' as a manager...they may not see the change that you see in yourself. Good luck to you!How do I go about changing careers?
Continue acting as the business manager / administrator

of the shop. Do this task full time. Relegate all your duties

as a mechanic to another person.

Learn accounting / business finance.

Learn marketing ( expand your shop's client base ).

Learn inventory management and job control.
