Am i too old to change careers ?

I 'm 39 years old with a bachelor degree in computer science. I want to go back for bachelors in nursing. I already have a lot of student loans. I don't how i would afford it. Am i too old to be changing careers although i'm currently not in the computer field.Am i too old to change careers ?
You're never too old to change careers. However, taking on more student loan in this kind of environment isn't the best idea either to be candid.



You should think about these things first:



1. Why do you want to change careers? Is there not enough openings in your current field? Are you burned out? Make sure your reasons for changing aren't just based around your *current* situation. That you really have a long-term desire for something more than what you have. You can always move to a better job market area (companies are REALLY needing people who are willing to relocate), and sometimes switching companies or taking on more challening tasks than cure burn out. Be sure you're switching for the right reasons



2. Are you sure you want to be a nurse? Is it going to be work the extra school work? Do you know how many hours a nurse puts into the job; the hours, the responsibilities, the challenges? I'd suggest talking to a lot of nurses first. Ask them what they love and hate about their jobs.



If you really want something in the medical field, but don't want to spend the money for school, become a medical assistant instead! They do require training, but the school is half the time and half as cheep. And you don't have to deal with urine and blood all day either! Medical transcriptionists and medical assistants are in huge demand right now. So think carefully before you switch careers!



I'd recommend looking at your budget. If you're already deep in debt, going back to school to switch careers won't helo you. Use your computer science degree first! Computer careers are hot and pay well. Reduce some of that debt first and then go back to college.

Getting into nursing is going to take 4-6 years if you go to a university, but maybe since you already have a BA, you might find better opportunities for you to change careers at a career college that specializes in nursing.Am i too old to change careers ?
You are never too old to pursue something that will make you happy!! As far as the student loans go, look at those as an investment in yourself for your future. Two degrees are better than none at all.Am i too old to change careers ?
