When my boyfriend and his ex-wife got a divorce he was making a good deal of money. Now he has changed careers and isnt making as much as before. When they got divorced child support took his wages and calculated his child support payments. Now that he is making less she is taking more than half his check because the amount hasnt changed. I looked at Colorados Family Support website and just cant seem to find out how to get all this changed for him. Does anyone know? How can you change the amount of child support you pay due to change of career?
He needs to go talk to the Child Support office. I know that in Texas, they review the case files every few years. My ex-husband and I were both subpoenaed to court because they'd reviewed the files and wanted to change the amounts. We were both happy the way things were, so it was noted and we moved on. But depending on his situation he needs to be prepared for possible court costs, especially if his ex wants to dispute the changes. How can you change the amount of child support you pay due to change of career?

I suspect %26quot;you%26quot; want this changed because it's affecting you. Well this should be %26quot;his%26quot; concern and not yours. Only the judge can make that change and if he wants that change he should take the matter back into court (spend money for his attorney to represent him, and that will probably cost a pretty penny). You say he has changed careers so I'd suspect that the judge would ask why that was. And why he hasn't taken a second job to pay for the other part of the money he owed. You know, of course, if he doesn't live up to the court order he will go to jail, don't you? So I suggest he get a second job or start a business with the rest of his time and bring in that money.
