I have been thinking a lot lately about how interesting it would be to go into some type of law enforcement. Not a cop, but maybe investigation or forensics. I graduated high school, but never went to college. I have a well paying job now, so money isn't the problem. Is it too late for me to start a new career or would it just be time wasted? Thanks.Do you think 45 is too old to change careers?
No not really .. people need to do what they feel they need to . With the way the Government is and what there doing .. We will have to work till were 90 or dead anyways. So i see you as only half way into a career time . so go do what you have to be happy ans successful in your life .Do you think 45 is too old to change careers?
If you think you cant handle your current job for another 20 years, there is no reason why you shouldn't change careers.Do you think 45 is too old to change careers?
Police investigators come from the ranks of uniform officers. There are no direct hire investigators.
Any of the forensic positions will require an appropriate degree.Do you think 45 is too old to change careers?

i would hope 45 isnt too old. i am 35 and have no idea what i want to be.... except for a dad.... but that doesnt pay. i love watching forensic files and other court tv shows.... but the reality of those jobs isnt as great as the shows........ it would feel good to prove someones dna is the one from a crime scene and all.... i just dont know how often that happens.... especially if its just small town local stuff..... ddo they get forensic evidence from all over the nation or just locally? i dont think 45 is too old... just dont know how fulfilling it would be.....Do you think 45 is too old to change careers?
not if you are unhappy, forensics might work, the others fall inside law enforcement careers, nonetheless find one before you quit the one you have.Do you think 45 is too old to change careers?
While technically, you can change careers at any age, there are real concerns and considerations to think about when doing so.
First, can you survive on a limited income while in school for x number of years? Second, could you survive on a possible reduced income if you start at the bottom of the pile again (and less vacation, seniority etc). Third, can you pay for an education or would you need to take out loans? ANd finally, have you really investigated the feasibility of that new career? Are there really jobs? Is it something you would really love to sacrifice to do (or is it just kinda a passing fancy). DO you have the time %26amp; energy to study %26amp; take classes?
As for forensics, the people who work in the lab are called criminalists: that is a bachelors in science (chem, bio etc) and most work on their masters in criminalistics. They have to work up to the more interesting exams, often spending several years in blood alcohol analysis learning court procedures, testing etc. Law enforcement has age restrictions and those that do crime scenes/investigations usually have been on the job for quite some time as they work up from being a rank and file cop (where you get your experience). You would be expected to work all shifts including graveyard as a %26quot;newbie%26quot;: could you do this?
My advice is to thoroughly research any new field you wish to enter and really explore what would it give to you versus how would getting there disrupt your routine %26amp; life; and also look hard at the realistic means to get there (and what is entailed) %26amp; the possibility of finding a job when done. Some career changes are very do-able and some....not so much.
