How can I change career direction?

I currently work as an events manager for a college and am starting to enjoy my job less and and less as I feel like I have little job security and very little work to do, I would like to change to being a secretary or even a PA but dont know how to go about making the switch, I used to be pa to my boss when I was a marketing assistant a few years back so I have the skills but so many companies now are looking for audio typing and shorthand which I dont have, what can I do? I have little cash free to take classes, is it worth applying for jobs anyway and seeing what happens? How can I change career direction?
Try applying for jobs anyway...as you suggested. If you are NOT offered a job, at least you get an idea where your weaknesses lie and you can address them.

Networking is absolutely the best way to find a position, especially one like a PA. Those aren't always advertised and many assistants work for individual people, not companies. So, talk to people who have or are PA's; ask for the names and contacts of other people who may be able to put you in touch with someone who might have a job open. Always be polite and grateful when you do this: and remember, it's reciprocal. If someone helps you, it's polite to help him/her.How can I change career direction?
I am sure you have really thought about your career - but PA/ Secretary also do not offer greater job security than the area you are in. However have you considered talking to your current manager or HR in the company about expanding your role? What could you give the company and how could you benefit as well. If that fails then you have to apply for very junior positions to learn the skills to be a PA.How can I change career direction?
I made a career change and really love what I do. I work from home in the medical field. There is unlimited earning potential, though there are not quotas so there is not the stress and pressure involved in some positions. The company provides us with a 401k and benefits as well as full training and support. It is mostly computer work with some customer service mixed in. Leadership skills are a plus. I would be happy to discuss it with you if it sounds as if it may be a good fit. I started part time and then went to full time once I got going. How can I change career direction?
