Is it too late to change career?

I am from the UK and moved to the US last May. I have a BA from a british university in Business. I would ultimately love to be a doctor but I need to know if it is at all possible. I presume I would have to start from the very bottom of the ladder. What is the bottom? How long would it take? How much would it cost? PS. I live in Salt Lake City.Is it too late to change career?
You're looking at about eight years of schooling at least and that dosen't include the residency. another big factor to look at here is your age. I mean if you're in your twenties I say go for it, but if you're in your late thirties I would probably back down and pursue something else that interests you. Anyway, in the end its your life and your choice so do what makes you happy :)Is it too late to change career?
I have a very good friend who decided to become a doctor when she was in her late twenties. She prepared herself to apply for med school by taking a variety of science courses that she hadn't taken as an undergraduate. She did this while working full time, and it took her about 24 months to get through the program in chemistry, biology, and organic chemistry. It was very tough, but it did give her a very good idea whether she had the mettle to make it through the rest of med school.

It was also somewhat daunting for her, when she finally made it to med school, being so much older than the rest of the students--just being in a different phase of her life. It made a difference in socializing with them, and in what she was capable of taking physically when it came to putting in hours for studying, being on call, etc.

But she made it through alright. She is definitely hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt--like the rest of her colleagues, and she is currently starting her second post-doc (at Dartmouth) to get more specialized knowledge under her belt.....and this is going on year 15 now, since she started the entire process.

So, there were 2 years of pre-med classes, at least 4-6 of med school, 2-3 of residency, plus 2 years of post docs so far----but you start getting paid when you're a resident, OK? Not much, but it is something--like 45 thousand or so.

Hope this helps.
