How do I change careers?

I have no idea what I want for a career. I am 28 now, so I want to start really getting into something.

I find it really hard to work 9 to 5. I've done legal secretarial work for a while, but my interests are alot different, I'm more creative. I'm interested in stand-up comedy, not just watching it, but how to make a good show, write a good script. I've done some writing, I've acted on stage, I paint, the only job I liked was working as a journalist for a local paper. It's not just that I'm bored with the jobs that I do, they are making me unhappy.

What kind of career could I do that is creative, that I can get stuck into and still make a living. How do I change careers?
I was in a situation almost similar to yours. Im only 20 but I think that im older. i forget that im ONLY 20. i have been trying to lay the foundation for a job that will suit my personality and that i won't want to change in 6 months like i do my other jobs.

thing is you have to learn yourself. learn your patterns for example. i change jobs every 6 months just about for the past 4 years. partly because i am bored about that time, so i have to get a job that is not doing the same thing over and over but changing somewhat.

one of my dominant characteristics or qualities is that i am extremely compassionate even when i wish i weren't. i was thinking of ways i can use this to my advantage.

maybe you should write down things about yourself. maybe ask other people what they could see you doing and check it out. maybe go and see what people in those fields really do.

i figured i would make a great nurse. only i don't want to work with men unless they are geriatrics. so i want to work with pediatrics or as a neo-nao nurse which i actually wanted to do when i was a small child. i used to say %26quot;i want to work with the babies in the glass boxes%26quot; and its so funny because it is actually what i am working on doing.

maybe go back to your childhood dreams of what you wanted to be and see if you still have those dreams inside of you. and do itHow do I change careers?
I've got a great question for you.

If money and success was guaranteed, what would you do. What's your main interest?

That's what you should pursue and sod everything else.

Remember aswell that the most important thing in the world above everything else, is to feel alright. How do I change careers?
If you want to go into a creative career:

1) Go to the local State employment office and take a aptitude test. this will show what you interest are. Not really 100%, but it's a starting point. (they will also assist you in getting a job in what you are intrested in)

2) Go to, and find out what the local community colleges offer in this area. Not just college courses, but adult continuing education courses.

3) Try to volunteer with the middle or high school drama clubs. This will give you a lot of insight, since the teachers are there to mentor. (as a volunteer, you will be trained in how to help the students, as well as yourself)

These are free evaluations. if you are still questioning yourself, you might have to go to a paid service that will take your money and offer false promises, be very careful.

Good luck and hope to see you on the Comedy Channel one day.

Think about going into marketing or marketing communications writing. You need to be a great writer, creative, funny, and like working with images. Many marketing writers are somewhat quirky.
