I already have degree in the humanties & want to be nurse. How much more schooling is needed?

Also, how old is too old to change careers? I have had this feeling to change careers for a while and am starting to give it more and more thought all the time. My mom is a nurse so I know the hard work it entails and what the rewards are... She went to nursing school before a college degree was needed. Any ideas? Thanks.I already have degree in the humanties %26amp; want to be nurse. How much more schooling is needed?
Its never to late and you are never to old. You will still have to get a nursing degree. You can get an Associates degree or a Bachelors. Depends on how much more time you want to spend in school. It will take approx. 2 years for an associates ( since most of your pre-reqs should be completed) and 4 for a bachelors. A BSN only makes about a dollar an hour more, they do the same work and take the same national test.The only difference is a BSN is first in line for advancement. You should check your states Board of Nursing. In Kansas community colleges( ADN/ASN) have a higher pass rate for state boards than Universities ( BSN). If you cannot pass the boards, it does not matter if you have a ADN or BSN you will not be a nurse.Good Luck!I already have degree in the humanties %26amp; want to be nurse. You are NEVER too old to change careers. Most important, you have to decide if the schooling will be worth it to you and whether or not you can physically handle the job. Being a nurse is VERY rewarding but also very physically demanding, especially bedside in a hospital. They work long hours and never sit still as I am sure you have seen from your mom. If you have a bachelor's degree already, you are ahead of the game - most of your pre-reqs will transfer and you will most likely have to pick up some science courses and then you can take the NET (Nurse Entrance Test) to apply for the nursing degree. The remainder would be two years, most of which is all of your clinicals. I recommend, if you can, to pursue the BSN program as most hospitals will look at that with higher regard these days and that will also allow you mgmt level growth for the future. If you have a bachelors degree in humanities then you can enroll in an accelerated BSN program. I went to this one after having a BA in biology: http://nursing.fau.edu/index.php?main=2%26amp;
