Most offices in our area are hiring part time hygienist so they don't have to pay health benefits. Hygienist also make $30-40 per hour depending on experience. The perks are: decent pay, one on one patient time, doing a good service to improve someone's health, meet a lot of nice people along the way. The cons: Sometimes you can get in a dental office that is hard to work for, the dentist could be a jerk, or he could pay poorly or he could expect you to squeeze in a lot of patients in a short amount of time. Sometimes working with a bunch of woman is not always easy either. Some patients may think yo dig too hard, some people may not clean their teeth very well, and some patients may just be absolute jerks and there is nothing you can say or do to make them happy.

Its expensive to go back to school, plus you have to factor in your loss in pay for the 2 years of school and then you have a job that is good and alot of people really like but there is no room for advancement whatsoever so it probobly doens't make sense to go back to school for it when you already have a good career
